Actor Angus Cloud has died at his family's home in Oakland, California, a statement has confirmed.

The 25-year-old is best known for his role as Fezco "Fez" O'Neill on the HBO teen drama Euphoria alongside Zendaya, but the star has also made cameos in several music videos for artists such as Becky G, Karol G, and Juice WRLD and appeared as a guest on a few other TV shows.

His role as a high school drug dealer with a heart of gold in the first and second seasons of Euphoria turned Cloud into a breakout Hollywood star, with fans enamoured by his close friendship with Lexi (Maude Apatow).

Before getting his big break on the show, however, Cloud's life looked very different.

He had attended the Oakland School for the Arts in his younger years, studying production design and technical theatre. He spent most of his time building sets and lighting the stage for actors and had never planned to end up in front of the camera.

His breakout role on Euphoria actually came by chance after he was quite literally spotted on the street in Manhattan by a representative from a casting company. He'd been living in Bushwick in New York and working at a chicken and waffle joint at the time, after heading out to the city two years prior on a whim and never booking a return flight home.

Speaking to GQ in 2019, Cloud revealed that he was stopped by a "pushy" rep who wanted him to come in and read for a new TV series. Some might jump at this, but Cloud admitted he initially thought it was some kind of "scam".

He told the publication: "I was confused and I didn't want to give her my phone number. I thought it was a scam." But he went for it and soon found himself in a room with very serious people, as he read lines from a script for Euphoria's first episode.

The casting crew liked what they had seen and Cloud was asked to come back to read again for the director of the pilot episode, Augustine Frizzell. He aced the second reading and he soon found himself on a flight to Los Angeles, after booking the role. The show soon got picked up for a full series and he found himself moving to LA full-time to shoot the episodes, but he ended up staying in Airbnbs because landlords in the area wouldn't take him seriously.

"Nobody was trying to rent me a spot," he told GQ. "I don't have any credit and they didn't believe I was a real actor." And Cloud himself couldn't believe he was a real actor, admitting that his first time filming left him wondering what he was doing and why they didn't hire a "real actor" for the job. He found it hard, in a different way than working in the chicken and waffle shop was hard.

"It's a different kind of hard. I am not running around sweating, but it's that mental s**t. You have to stay focused. You have to be on point. You can't call in sick. Acting takes a lot out of you. I'd be drained, but I was just sitting there acting."

He adds that after a while things didn't get easier, but he began to understand acting more. He found himself a manager and had been auditioning for lots of other parts outside of Euphoria. Cloud died on July 31, 2023, and in an emotional statement, his family said: "It is with the heaviest heart that we had to say goodbye to an incredible human today.

"As an artist, a friend, a brother, and a son, Angus was special to all of us in so many ways." The statement revealed his father had died recently and the star was struggling with his loss.

It continued: "Last week he buried his father and intensely struggled with this loss. The only comfort we have is knowing Angus is now reunited with his dad, who was his best friend." No cause of death has been confirmed.

The statement added that Angus was open about his battle with mental health and it said it is hoped his passing can be "a reminder to others that they are not alone". His family told TMZ they hoped Angus would be remembered for his humour, laughter, and love for everyone before they asked for privacy to help them process their devastating loss.

Angus' rumoured girlfriend Sydney Martin has spoken out about the actor's death in an emotional Instagram post. The model, who was thought to be in an on-off relationship with Angus posted a black background to her Instagram Stories with a set of seven red broken-hearted emojis.

In a second post, Sydney shared a picture of Angus. Alongside it she wrote: "My heart is so broken. I love you forever," adding a red heart emoji and an angel wing. She continued: "I will never let the world forget you. Bless bless 1 love."

HBO also released a statement on Monday evening. It read: "We are incredibly saddened to learn of the passing of Angus Cloud. He was immensely talented and a beloved part of the HBO and Euphoria family. We extend our deepest condolences to his friends and family during this difficult time."
