Man Utd target De Jong admits Barca 'situation'

Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong has admitted he became embroiled in a "situation" with Barcelona president Joan Laporta last summer over his failed move to Manchester United.

But although De Jong publicly pledged his commitment to the Catalan giants last year, he reportedly kept in contact with Ten Hag with a view to a future move.

Kane sent transfer warning

Peter Crouch has warned Harry Kane he may not feel the same level of affection at a new club if he leaves Tottenham this summer.

Speaking ahead of Spurs' home clash against Brentford, Crouch said: "There’s something very special about being a one-club man - like Steven Gerrard or Jamie Carragher.

"Harry Kane, yeah he may not win a trophy, but if he stays here they'll build a statue of him. He'll be able to bring his family and his grandkids here."

Rio Ferdinand explained that Manchester United is the only club he should consider joining, as he added: "Man Utd is the only place if he wants that Premier League record, which is in his sights. H's a fabulous player. Whatever he does, with his career, he's a guy who will be celebrated with what he's achieved, he's been a phenomenal servant to this club."

Toney could leave Brentford

Ivan Toney could still get a dream big money move - even before his eight month ban ends.

Premier League big guns are watching developments with interest as Brentford were bracing themselves for transfer bids this summer - and they could still come in ahead of the January window.

‌Toney, 27, has been banned and fined £50,000 after admitting 232 breaches of strict Football Association rules on players placing bets. Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United are all admirers of the Brentford striker who has scored 20 goals in 33 games this season.

Man Utd 1999 vs Man City 2023

My combined XI, from Manchester United's 1999 Treble winners and the Manchester City team looking to emulate them over the next three weeks, would be a 4-3-3 shape.

Yes, it's weighted 8-3 in favour of Sir Alex Ferguson's United, because they set the bar 24 years ago and their achievement hasn't been matched by Pep Guardiola's men... yet.

Of the current City contingent, only Ruben Dias, Kevin de Bruyne and Erling Haaland get the nod. That sees Peter Schmeichel keeping Ederson out between the sticks, with Gary Neville, Jaap Stam and Denis Irwin joining Dias in the back four.

Paul Scholes and Roy Keane line up alongside De Bruyne in the midfield trio, with David Beckham and Ryan Giggs supplying Haaland with the ammunition from the flanks. Oh, and for good measure, sorry Pep... it's Sir Alex in the dugout too.

My Combined Starting XI: Peter Schmeichel; Gary Neville, Jaap Stam, Ruben Dias, Denis Irwin; Paul Scholes, Roy Keane, Kevin de Bruyne; David Beckham, Erling Haaland, Ryan Giggs
