Babies born in 2024 are set for some seriously sophisticated names, according to experts.

Choosing a name for your little one can be a hard task and parents can often change their mind on what names they like and dislike every day. Some choose to follow the latest trends, while other expecting parents stick to the classics. This year the tide has changed once again as "grown-up" monikers are in vouge.

Baby name expert and Nameberry creator Pamela Redmond suggests the perfect baby name for 2024 is both modern and "personally significant". It is also believed that many parents will be choosing to ditch "cute" names for their children, and instead opt for "grown-up" and sophisticated names, said to have a "timeless" feel. According to Nameberry, these include classics such as Arthur or boys and Georgina, and Sylvia for girls.

Meanwhile, Babycentre reports that earthy and airy-inspired are "becoming more and more popular". Musical icons as well as girls names for boys - including Cleo, Fern, June, Hazel, and Willow - are predicted to be on the list for more parents of boys as unisex names become more common.

Vintage names that were highly coveted by previous generations, such as Betty, are making a comeback, according to baby name consultant Colleen Slagen, who created a report on trending names collaboration with retailer JoJo Maman Bébé. This was illustrated by Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively's most recent addition to the family in February of this year.

Other classic names expected to make a comeback this year include Cedric, Dolores, Marjorie, said Slagen. According to Slagen's research, names that are considered "older" monikers that have fallen out of fashion in recent years but could make a comeback as parents go back to basics.

You could also consider Isla, Florence, and Evelyn among the "grown-up" names - all of which finished within Babycentre's top 20 names for girls in 2023. For boys, top 20 finishers including Oliver, George, Henry, and Jude could all fit into this category too.

Baby name expert Slagen explained: "These older names appeal to parents who are searching for timeless charm. They also feel both unique and familiar, which is something a lot of parents are seeking in a name.

"They want their child's name to both standout and fit in. They want a name that feels sweet but ages well and older names check all these boxes."
