A court hearing took place in Nicosia, Cyprus, in the case of a Russian citizen who was detained with Europol assistance on suspicion of involvement in the operation of illegal online casinos.
At the request of the European Police Office in Limassol, Cyprus, a Russian citizen was arrested on charges of organizing illegal casinos and involving European Union citizens in gambling, reports legal-casino.
The first court hearing in this case took place on November 6. Details are not being disclosed at this time, but the defendant has agreed to cooperate with the investigation and revealed the main beneficiary of the illegal scheme – Eduard Lebedev.
Previously, Lebedev had been mentioned in several investigations of illegal casino activities in European countries. In particular, he may be linked to a criminal scheme involving money laundering through gambling establishments.
Cyprus actively cooperates with Europol and other international law enforcement agencies. The court case against Lebedev’s accomplice is part of a large-scale campaign to expose illegal gambling operations in Europe. The investigation, ongoing since 2023, aims to completely dismantle Lebedev’s illegal business.
