Customer leaves sharp note blasting waitress for 'flirting' with her husband
Heading to a restaurant for a meal out, whether it is at a fast food chain or high end restaurant, is a treat, and one some couples or families wish to enjoy without any disturbances – or flirting. One family ventured out for a bite to eat during a visit “The South”, which is believed to be the Southern States, but the experience was not all fun and games. At least, not for the wife.
One disgruntled party in a couple shared a photograph of the receipt after the feast with the family on Reddit. The image, shared by Reddit user nikki1580 on the Mildly Infuriating thread on the site, was posted alongside the caption: “Families first time visiting the South.”
A quick glance and you may miss what the issue was, it’s not the $36.72 (£28) total cost of the bill, but a closer look at the receipt and we soon understand where the issue lies. Under the tip section on the receipt the wife has written a scathing message, which reads: “Don’t call my husband sweetheart.”

Fellow Reddit users have weighed in on the matter, with some insisting the waitress was not flirting but simply being kind and showcasing “southern hospitality”, while others have slammed the Reddit writer for wanting an excuse to avoid paying the tip.

One Redditer defended the waitress, and commented: “I live in Texas. It would be weird if the waitress didn’t call you hun or sweetheart etc.” Another added: “Y'all better prepare yourselves for the sweet tea and southern hospitality! enjoy your first visit to the south.”
A third commented: “I've been to both North and South Carolina, the times I heard people getting mad over their husbands/boyfriends being called sweetheart was amazing. This was obviously their first time in those states.” While others think the post speaks volumes about the wife, as a separate Redditer wrote: “I imagine that person never had an intent to tip and was looking for any excuse.”
Another shared: “Sadly I know people like this. The complaints usually start as soon as they’re seated. Needless to say I don’t partake with going out with them.” A separate slammed the Redditer as a “cheapskate”, while another gave their insight as a waitress and their upset over this assumption around the restaurant staff's politeness.
They shared: “Man I’d be in so much trouble. Work in retail when serving customers it either sweetheart, sweet pea, sugar plum or cherry ripe. Some customers come in just to see what I’ll call them next. Others have said ‘My mum used to call me that thanks for the memory’. Not once have I been accused of hitting on anyone but then I am over 50 yo and not very attractive.”
