Whether you're a celebrity or not, dating again after a serious breakup is never easy, especially if you're looking for that special someone to share a real connection with. A Place in the Sun presenter Laura Hamilton has recently opened up about entering the world of dating after splitting from husband Alex Goward after 10 years of marriage, admitting that she gets "the 'ick' quite quickly" when it comes to potential suitors.

As Laura sets out to find the one for her, we take a look at her life away from the popular property programme, from her stunning home to her relatable divorce drama.

Divorce drama

In January 2022, Kent-born Laura announced she and husband Alex were divorcing after nine years of marriage, sharing the news via Instagram with a photo of a Dr. Seuss quote that read: "Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened." In the caption of the post, Laura wrote: "This isn't something I ever thought I'd be saying but, after 13 years of being together Alex and I have separated. Our children are and always will be our number one priority and we would respect privacy for our family at this time. Laura."

Detailing why they'd decided to separate, Laura told HELLO! magazine: "It was a decision we both came to. We have an enormous amount of respect for each other, but we are now on different paths. At the point it was announced, we'd already overcome a lot of difficult times. But I am lucky that we have the relationship and respect for each other that we have, and our children's happiness will always be our priority."

The pair have since made sure to focus on co-parenting their children, Rocco, 10, and Tahlia, eight, in an amicable manner, even enjoying family holidays together in Spain and Greece. The mum-of-two has also been open about the more difficult parts of divorce, however, admitting that she cried a lot following the split, but knew she had to remain strong for the sake of her kids.

Considering whether she feels content during another interview with HELLO!, Laura reflected: "You say content, but I have moments when I feel this is tough, this is hard, this is not what I expected my life to be. But I'm a glass-half-full person and I have to be positive. I have to be strong. Am I making the best of the situation as I can right now? Yes, 100 per cent."

As difficult as the last few years have been, however, Laura now feels ready to move forward with her life and find Mr Right, and has revealed she's looking for someone she can count on to be her "best friend". Speaking with The Sun, Laura shared: "I've been on some great dates, to some lovely restaurants, on a picnic, to the theatre. But I get the 'ick' quite quickly. Once I've got the ick, I'm done. Usually after two dates I know he isn't my Prince Charming and then I don't think it's fair to waste anyone's time. If it's not a 'F***, yes', it's a 'No'. I'm a complete romantic. For me, it's all about chemistry and a genuine connection."

Gorgeous home

Perhaps unsurprisingly given her experience presenting A Place in the Sun, Laura's house is absolutely beautiful and very tastefully decorated. Her renovated kitchen in particular is absolutely gorgeous and includes a stunning marble island and a bespoke table complete with rattan chairs.

Sharing snaps of her completed renovation project via Instagram, Laura wrote: "My Kitchen is almost finished - there is still a fair bit of painting to do but I LOVE IT! It has been a rollercoaster of a journey and like all projects things haven't always gone to plan. I have designed my property from start to finish (the end is in sight) and Rocco and Tahlia have been very much part of the journey too. I think they have enjoyed watching it progress each week and seeing it transform from a 'build project' to a 'HOME'.
