Long-running Channel 4 favourite A Place in the Sun is finally getting a spin-off in which the presenters revisit the people they’ve helped to move abroad.

And with nearly 22 years worth of programming, they’ve got plenty to chose from. Over forty episodes, the property expert presenters Jasmine Harman, Ben Hillman, Laura Hamilton, Leah Charles-King, Danni Menzies, Jean Johansson, Craig Rowe, Lee Juggurnauth and Sara Damergi will catch up with the house-hunters they’ve worked with over the decades to see if their dream purchase did indeed deliver their dream life.

The series will also bring a return for Amanda Lamb, who’ll revisit Mike and Fiona from Derbyshire in 2007, who were seeking a holiday home in Lorraine, France. Since the hit daytime show began in 2000, many of the house-hunters have been soaking up the sun and enjoying a slower pace of life in their chosen destinations. But for others, it’s been a busy time with jobs including renovating barns, re-wilding, developing an eco-friendly lifestyle and running B&Bs.

In the spin off - called A Place in the Sun What Happened Next? - viewers will also learn how the warmer climates have helped to ease medical conditions and, in some cases, find love. Executive producer, Michelle Heeley, told the Mirror: “It’s been wonderful to re-visit these house-hunters who are thriving in their new homes in the sun.

"We are immensely proud to have helped change so many people's lives. It’s a testament to all the hard work our production team and presenters have put in over the past 23 years. I can’t wait for viewers to see what happens next.”

Channel 4 daytime boss Jo Street added: “A Place in the Sun is such a beloved show, and we know the audience really cares what happens to the house-hunters once the cameras leave. What a treat to catch up and see what happened when that offer was finally accepted.” The spin-off has been ordered for two series, with the first airing next year.
