Love Your Garden viewers were left in tears on Tuesday after learning show guest, Gordon, had sadly passed away after filming the episode.

During the latest instalment, Alan Titchmarsh and his team headed to Hinkley to surprise World War II veteran Gordon, aged 96, who was one of the last surviving soldiers who fought in World War II at the D-Day landings, as his garden needed inspiration.

Speaking to Alan, Gordon said his late wife had loved the garden but it was "too much" for him to take care of due to his knees. Talking about the vision, Alan wanted to make it a family garden to bring "extra light and love" into all of their lives, bringing in glorious flowers and roses. The team also created a memory space on a sheltered wooden gazebo, which was full of pictures and memories for Gordon.

Unveiling the makeover, Alan said it was a "bright and colourful English country garden" to which Gordon started laughing over the incredible transformation, saying: "You made a lovely job, I can't believe it, beautiful! I don't know how to thank you all" although he emotionally added: "I wish the wife was here."

Alan added: "This is a garden to say thank you to 96-year-old Gordon... for things that he did in the past but also to celebrate the future with his son, his grandson and his great-grandson... the four musketeers." However, after the episode aired, an announcement by ITV sadly revealed: "Since this programme was made for ITV, Gordon Bennett has very sadly passed away."
