Rishi Sunak was set to enjoy a week of sun, spin classes and Star Wars as he hopped a flight to California.

Just hours after urging people to extend their mortgages “by ten or 15 years” in order to make ends meet, the Prime Minister jetted off on the kind of holiday that most Brits could only dream of. The Prime Minister owns a £5 million luxury penthouse apartment in Santa Monica, about an hour’s drive away from Disneyland.

He flew into LAX on Wednesday evening, before posing for photos with his wife Akshata Murty and their two daughters on nearby Santa Monica pier. And it was claimed the PM joined a Taylor Swift-themed Soul Cycle gym class in Santa Monica on Friday morning.

TikTok user Hannah Harmelin said she’d been surprised to arrive at her 7am class to see “secret service everywhere”. She said she thought it might be Taylor herself, as she is performing in Los Angeles this week, but she added: “Turns out it was the Prime Minister of the UK. Apparently he’s a Swiftie”.

Mr Sunak told LBC on Wednesday his daughters Krishna,12, and Anoushka, 10, were “very excited” to be visiting Disneyland later in their 10-day California Break. Even without the cost of flights and hotels, Disneyland park tickets can cost up to $244 (£191.40) per person, per day.

VIPs can pay for a guided tour of the parks for up to ten people - at a cost of around £38,000. Booking onto the tour also guarantees reserved seats for the legendary Disney fireworks show, and a prime spot on the parade route.

But most importantly, VIP guests are allowed to skip the long queues at even the newest rides - such as the Star Wars rides Mr Sunak said he was most excited to try. Mr Sunak, an avid Star Wars fan who is said to own a number of toy lightsabers, could use the queue-jump perk to ride on Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run in the Galaxy’s Edge section of the park.

The ride sees guests assisting a group of pirates in stealing a shipment of fuel - which may give Mr Sunak some ideas on bringing down Britain’s energy bills. And he’ll be greeted by a cast of characters from a galaxy far, far away - including stormtroopers, young jedi Rey and Chewbacca, the ship’s seven foot tall, fuzzy first mate.

Disneyland also boasts an exclusive, invitation-only private members club on property, known as Club 33. But it did not appear to be in use at the time of Mr Sunak’s visit. “I moved to California to get away from these Mickey Mouse Tories,” one British ex-pat, who’s lived in LA for the last four years told the Sunday Mirror. “Disneyland’s supposed to be the happiest place on Earth. I hope I don’t bump into him, or it won’t be a happy place.”
