Woman warned against baby name she loves due to upcoming Disney movie
A woman is unsure on the name she has decided on if she has a baby boy as it is the same as a character from an upcoming Disney film. She has been in love with the moniker Elio for a while and it is a common name from her husband's culture but she is concerned that it is the same as a character from the upcoming film.
The baby is due to be born in July while the movie 'Elio' is due to hit screens in 2024, and the soon-to-be mum is worried her kid will resent his name when he grows up.
Taking to Reddit, the woman added that where she lives, Elio is on the top 500 list of common names for babies but admits she's concerned about the movie coming out and people judging the choice.
In the post, the woman, who remained anonymous, explained: "The name we have chosen if we have a baby boy in July is the name of an upcoming Disney movie.
"The name is a traditional name from my husband's culture and we've liked it for many years. It is not in the top 500 in the USA, where we live."
Baby boy has spent his life in hospital as doctors are 'scared' to discharge himShe finished by asking the forum how they would feel about sharing their name with a character from a Disney movie.
"I am in love with this name and don't want to change it but I don't want my kid to resent their name," she stated.
In response, many offered their advice for the mum and said it should not be such a big deal.
One person wrote: "If you get lucky and the movie pronounces it the same way you will, then you'll end up benefiting from more people being able to say it. The only real danger is if there's some difference in pronunciation it will make it harder."
In reply, the original poster agreed: "All good points in here! I did not think about pronunciation."
While another stated: "I love the name Elio!"
A third penned: "I think it’s fine. I know an Ariel named a few months before Little Mermaid came out - I don’t think it’s been a big deal (though maybe I should ask her!), especially now 34 years later! Your son will be Elio his whole life."
