Manchester United could face competition from Bayern Munich for Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat ahead of next month's transfer deadline.

Amrabat, 26, has just one year remaining on his contract with the Serie A outfit and has been courted by some of Europe's top clubs since impressing for Morocco at the World Cup last year.

Although nobody made a move for the playmaker during the January transfer window, it is expected that Amrabat will leave Fiorentina in the coming weeks. Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag is known to be an avid admirer of Amrabat, who he worked with briefly at FC Utrecht.

However, Sky Sports Germany have now outlined that Amrabat's representatives are also more than aware of Bayern Munich's need for a No.6 - and that the Bundesliga giants already have the midfielder on their shortlist.

News of rival interest from Germany will come as a major blow to Ten Hag, who is hoping to strike a deal for Amrabat before next month's transfer deadline. To do so, though, the Dutchman knows he will have to raise additional transfer funds through player sales after agreeing big money deals for Mason Mount, Andre Onana and Rasmus Hojlund already this summer - a problem Bayern do not have.

Amrabat appears to be edging closer to a move away from his current club after he was left out of the Fiorentina squad that will travel to England for pre-season action this weekend.

La Viola are due to play Newcastle and OGC Nice in the Sela Cup at St James' Park this weekend and Amrabat was expected to feature before a late change of plan on Friday.

Manchester United, meanwhile are expected to unveil Hojlund ahead of their own warm-up match against RC Lens on Saturday afternoon.

The Denmark international, 20, has been linked with a move to Old Trafford for weeks after he emerged as the club's primary striker target earlier in the transfer window due to Tottenham's reluctance to sell Harry Kane.

Hojlund was seen flying into Manchester on Friday after United agreed a deal with Atalanta which could reach £72million if bonuses and add-ons are met.

United have fought off rival interest from Paris Saint-Germain to seal a deal for Hojlund, who is expected to sign a five-year deal with the Red Devils after completing medical tests over the weekend.

The Old Trafford hierarchy will now turn their attention to offloading players who are surplus to requirements in the final weeks of the transfer window. The likes of Fred, Harry Maguire and Donny van de Beek could all be sold if suitable offers are lodged for their services in the coming weeks.
