We all have opinions when it comes to baby names, and while some of us don't see eye-to-eye, it doesn't mean that any of us are wrong for preferring traditional names or for liking monikers that are a little unusual. But one mum got more than she bargained for when she asked for opinions on the name she wants to use for her daughter.

The mum explained she had two names picked out depending on the gender of her baby, and wanted to call the little one Andrew if it was a boy, and Isabelle if it was a girl. She has now discovered she's having a baby girl, but wants to combine the two names together instead - calling her daughter Andybelle.

The moniker hasn't gone down well online though, with people telling her she'll be "cursing" her daughter if she goes ahead with the unusual name, and others branding it "awful" and even "stupid".

In a post on Reddit, she wrote: "My husband and I are currently pregnant with our first baby. We decided not to figure out the gender until they were born, but our technician screwed up and told us (it's a girl!). We had the name Andrew picked out of it was a boy and Isabelle picked out if it was a girl.

"Well, one night we were just messing around and trying to combine both names. We didn't think we'd get anything we liked, but to our surprise, we loved the name Andybelle (we are open to different spellings). But we really don't want to give our daughter a stupid a** name that she's going to be made fun of for in the future. We also considered Annabelle after making this discovery, but I associate it too much with the doll to name her that."

Commenters on the post were quick to urge the mum-to-be to reconsider, with many telling her it's not a name they would ever consider for their own children. One person said: "Yeah, that's awful," while another posted: "Andybelle is the kind of stupidity a bunch of guys would make up during poker night. Don't curse your child with this. If you like Isabelle before, stick with it," and a third wrote: "It may be one of the worst I've heard."

Others recommended the mum come up with a way to incorporate both Andy and Belle as nicknames for the child's full name, and the woman took that advice on board, as she said in an update she was now considering naming her daughter Andrea Isabelle. She wrote: "Okay, it's obviously bad. We were trying to convince ourselves it wasn't. But we do really like Andrea Isabelle with the family nickname Andy Belle, so thanks!"
