Arsenal target 'next Luka Modric' as Mikel Arteta plots latest Man Utd hijack

With £200million spent by mid-July, you'd expect Arsenal to tighten the purse strings for the remainder of the summer transfer window.

But Mikel Arteta and co are keeping their wallets on the table, ready to pounce should an opportunity arise before deadline day on September 1. The Gunners have already welcomed Kai Havertz, Jurrien Timber and Declan Rice, all of whom are on their pre-season tour of the United States, but that hasn't stopped Arteta from teasing more new arrivals.

"We will be alert," the Arsenal manager affirmed to Sky Sports. "There is still time to do things, there is still time for exits obviously, so I am sure things will move." There's also the chance of some outgoing Gunners, with the likes of Nicolas Pepe on the chopping block.

Here's a round-up of the latest transfer news from the Emirates.

'Next Modric' eyed

Arsenal are said to be considering a move for Croatian starlet Martin Buturina, who's been dubbed the 'next Luka Modric' in their homeland. The Express report that Dinamo Zagreb midfielder, 20, is being tracked by the Gunners, who were understood to have sent scouts to watch his team play on several occasions last season.

That's because Arsenal were completing checks on centre-back Josip Sutalo, but Buturina's imrpessive performances caught their eye. Although no move is imminent, it's worth noting that this could be the kind of deal which the Gunners look to round out their summer with, and he's valued between £10million and £15m.

Gunners want Man Utd target Kudus

Arsenal reportedly want to sign Ajax attacker Mohammed Kudus from underneath Manchester United's noses. The 22-year-old Ghanaian can play in midfield or as a forward, breaking through during United boss Erik ten Hag's reign in Amsterdam.

Now valued at £40m by the Dutch giants, the Mail claim that Arsenal are interested in a move which would see them significantly add to their £200m spending spree. United have long been linked with Kudus but Ten Hag's United are yet to make a serious attempt to sign him which leaves him available for the Gunners to snap up.

Pepe attracting Saudi interest

Nicolas Pepe might've found his exit route out of Arsenal: the Saudi Pro League. According to CBS Sports, the Gunners' £72m signing has garnered interest from a mid-table club in Saudi following his difficult loan spell with Nice last season.

It's added that Emirates chiefs would be willing to accept a nominal fee for Pepe and are even open to ripping up his contract. The Gunners have previously done that with fading stars such Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Willian and Sead Kolasinac.
