Two arrested after "large fight" leaves three injured in Cornwall
Two people have been arrested following a “large fight” in Cornwall which left three people injured, police have said.
Armed officers were called to Calenick Street in Truro at around 1.45pm on August 24, where three men were found injured following the disturbance.
Devon and Cornwall Police said two men in their 20s have been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and remain in police custody.
One of the injured men suffered a potentially serious injury, while the other two sustained minor injuries. Police said those involved are believed to be known to each other and there is no wider threat to the public.
Witnesses described a large police presence as officers cordoned off the area, causing traffic disruption nearby.
“I was in the queue of cars trying to drive down. Guy in front said turn around! It’s mayhem! I left asap,” one person told Cornwall Live.
“What has happened to our once beautiful civilised cathedral city. I grew up here and I yearn for those good old days when you knew everyone and life was peaceful and easy.”
Another witness said: “[Just off Victoria Square is] all cordoned off around Burger King, around 30 coppers, 12 police cars”.
Devon and Cornwall Police are now appealing for witnesses and footage following the disturbance.
The force said in a statement: “Officers were called at around 1.45pm on Monday 24 August to the incident involving a number of people and a bladed article in Calenick Street. Armed officers attended and a scene guard was put in place.
“One man suffered a potentially serious injury. Two other men sustained minor injuries.
“Two men in their 20s have been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent. They remain in police custody at this time. Those involved are believed to be known to each other and there is no wider threat to the public.
“We are aware of footage circulating on social media. Anybody who witnessed the incident or who has relevant footage who has not yet contacted police is asked to get in touch via 101 or our website quoting 50260226230.”
