Helen Skelton revealed she was rather emotional during an episode of BBC Morning Live as Gethin Jones brought his 24-hour danceathon to an end.

The presenter was taking part in a challenge for Comic Relief in a bid to raise as much money for the charity as possible which will be distributed across the UK and around the world.

Throughout his intense challenge, Gethin was joined by a string of celebrities including fellow Welsh star, Alex Jones.

Gethin's danceathon came to an end during Morning Live from their Manchester studio, with Strictly Come Dancing star Helen cheering him on in the final moments.

She said: "We are counting down to a Strictly fitness like no other.

"Gethin is digging deep, the nation is behind you, people have been watching all night, you've had people in tears, and people are cheering you on."

Helen went on to say: "I'm getting emotional just standing next to you, because he's broken, guys!

"But he's doing it for a fantastic cause, for a cause that helps so, so many of us, can he complete the challenge?"

He started his task on Thursday, March 16 and finished at 10am on Friday, just hours before the BBC kicked off their Comic Relief events.

As his challenge concluded, it emerged that Gethin had managed to raise an eyewatering £900,000 for the charity which will be distributed between hundreds of charities.

The telly presenter burst into tears as the total was revealed, as he said: "This celebration sums it up all the messages overnight have been phenomenal, I can't quite believe what we've raised for Comic Relief.

"It's going to change lives, it's going to save lives, I've said it all along, I'm so proud."

Fans have since taken to social media praising Gethin, with one writing: "So very proud of you Gethin Jones you have to be the most loveliest presenter on tv over here I do adore you so much."

A second penned: "I never normally watch breakfast television, but I stayed in a hotel last night (the only time I ever do) and woke up to watch the lovely Gethin Jones last hour of his #RedNoseDay 24hr danceathon. What a superstar! There's still time to donate and it's a brilliant cause."

"Congratulations to Gethin Jones of Good Morning Live. Gethin had raised nearly £1,000,000 for Comic Relief by dancing for 24 hours by the time the programme ended this morning. Money is still coming in. Llongarfarchiadau," commented a third.

During the live Comic Relief fundraiser on BBC One, it was announced Gethin had raised £1.192million
