Kate Garraway clashed with Isabel Oakeshott on Good Morning Britain today over Matt Hancock's WhatsApp messages.

The presenter fronted the ITV show today alongside Ben Shephard, where they welcomed Matt Hancock's ghost writer and journalist Isabel Oakeshott on the programme to discuss her decision to release the disgraced Tory MP's messages.

In one message, he described giving police officers "their marching orders" to enforce restrictions – just days before staff held a party at 10 Downing Street whilst in other messages, it is claimed Mr Hancock said he did not think committing to testing those from the community - including care home staff - added anything and "muddies the waters".

Mr Hancock has furiously disputed the claims and said they were taken out of context. He also said he was "hugely disappointed and sad at the massive betrayal and breach of trust by Isabel Oakeshott".

Speaking on the show today, Isabel said: "People can decide themselves which is more important. Is it more important for me as a journalist to protect the blushes and reputation of self interested politicians, who by the way are all hiring lawyers to protect their interests during this public inquiry or is it more important for me to reveal information that affected every single one of us.

"That is where I think my duty is. Of course, there are risks with breaking written agreements. I'm prepared to take that risk in the public interest. The amount of messages I am getting from ordinary people who are still suffering from the pandemic is encouraging."

Kate then went on to discuss trust before the pair clashed.

"What about this word trust? Trust for them you've talked about that you felt because of concerns over that, the politicians, but also I guess trust in you, not just in breaking the trust of Matt Hancock, but in the position you've come from," she said.

As Kate questioned whether the messages released fitted her 'anti-lockdown agenda', she fumed back: "Well let's talk about trust shall we? Because I think far too many people trusted our politicians to protect our best interests during the pandemic and they're questioning if they should have put so much trust in our politicians.

However, Kate tried to speak over Isabel as she kept saying "I get your point" whilst the journalist continued to speak.

"Talking trust in me, because I know you want to talk about that," Isabel said before Kate interrupted to add: "You talk about the evidence, but it could have gone a different way," as she quizzed the journalist on her decision to release the messages.
