Warzone 2 Season 2 release date confirmed and Resurgence is getting a resurgence
After trying to nail down the Warzone 2 Season 2 release date based on community speculation and tidbits from leakers, Activision has dropped official confirmation alongside news of a brand new map.
Warzone 2 players have been mourning the loss of Resurgence since it disappeared from the original Warzone at the launch of 2.0. The hope was that it would eventually make its way to Warzone 2 in the second season, and that's exactly what's happening. And if that wasn't enough of a treat, a "brand new small map" is making its debut as well.
When is Resurgence coming back, you ask? Both it and the new map will roll out at the launch of Warzone 2's Season 2 on Wednesday, February 15. That lines up with the most recent rumour around the second season's launch date, which pegged it as mid-February based on the date the Season 1 Scavenger bundle ends.
As for an exact release time, we're expecting Warzone 2 Season 2 to go live at 6pm GMT / 1pm ET / 10am PT on the designated date, judging by past updates. Of course, that's not confirmed, so we'll have to wait for more details from Activision who'll give players a heads-up. Servers often go down shortly before updates roll out – like Fortnite update 23.20 which kicked players out half an hour before the servers went offline. So I imagine we'll get a similar warning closer to the time.
Your wish is my command
It seems that Activision has heard the Warzone 2 community's pleas for their beloved little maps. The tweet posted on the official Call of Duty account says that "several changes" have been made based on player feedback. So pat yourself on the head for that contribution.
Call of Duty could be removed from Microsoft's Activision dealAlongside the new seasonal content, which is standard fare with live service games, and – of course – the two maps, there are some other changes headed our way for Warzone 2.
Ranked play is back and coming to Modern Warfare 2, and so are new multiplayer maps, new modes, new weapons, and then some. While Modern Warfare 2 is its own title, there's a lot of crossover between the two games so an update for one is often an update for the other.
The biggest highlight though is the return of Resurgence. It's been a long couple of months since Warzone 2's launch last November, and players will have had to make do without the map for another month on top of that. But at least we know it's on the way.
What we don't have an update on, and what the community has definitely been vocal about, is the absence of stat tracking in Warzone 2. There is a workaround but it's not ideal, and being able to track stats is just a basic feature we've all come to expect in shooters. Season 2 – at least at launch – isn't going to solve that problem, so let's hope Activision hears that feedback and acts on it.
