March is shaping up to be a stacked month of TV, with a bunch of brilliant blockbusters heading to streaming services. As we head into spring, TV and film fans are blessed with everything from period conspiracy thrillers and superhero animations to star-studded sixties comedies.

Shōgun

This sprawling samurai series has been hailed as a “genuine masterpiece” by critics and is said to be the most epic show since Game of Thrones. The Japanese-set action-drama has earned a 100 percent Rotten Tomatoes score, while fans have already said it could be the best show of the year.

Shōgun centres around a military leader in 17th-century Japan who fights for his life at the dawn of an era-defining civil war. It is told from the perspective of English sailor John Blackthorne (Cosmo Jarvis), who rises from outsider to samurai while being used as a pawn in Lord Yoshii Toranaga’s (Hiroyuki Sanada) struggle to reach the top of the ruling chain – or Shōgun

Invincible: Season two, part two

This genre-bending series comes from Game of Thrones creators and showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, who have adapted Liu Cixin’s internationally celebrated book trilogy, The Three-Body Problem. It follows a “mind-boggling journey spanning continents and timelines” that takes place in the past, present and future, from the 1960s Cultural Revolution in China to the present-day streets of Oxford and the United Nations in New York.

Speaking to Netflix, writer Alexander Woo described the story as “a history of humanity from the point of first contact with an alien civilization all the way to the end of the universe.”

Renegade Nell

Aided by her superpowered sidekick, a plucky little sprite called Billy Blind (Nick Mohammed), Nell soon realises that fate has put her on the wrong side of the law for a reason, a reason much bigger than she could have ever imagined: to defeat a magical plot against the Queen of England.
