Orchids can "bloom constantly" when they're taken care of, and there's one simple method to help you achieve this, according to an expert.

As most people will know, the pretty houseplants can thrive in humid conditions and when they're given the right amount of sunlight and water. A happy and healthy orchid can bloom for six to ten weeks, and for the process to happen again - it helps to know what steps you need to take.

Plant lovers will be keen to see their orchids flower - but that doesn't mean you'll have to wait another couple of months, according to one flower expert.

Houseplant expert Kiva Kriti recommends people reach for one household product, which can easily be found in your kitchen cupboards before watering your orchid.

The TikToker says that using a banana peel works wonders, and ensures your orchid is constantly thriving. She stressed the importance of repeating the method every 10 days. Kiiva shared a video on her TikTok account, which recieved 7,359 views, with many people thanking her for sharing the helpful tip, the Express reports. In the clip, she begins by peeling a banana and then chopping the skin into pieces.

She "soaks the chopped banana peel in warm water for a few hours", which will then be "ready to use" for the orchid houseplant. Lastly, the content creator takes the banana-infused water and uses it to water her orchid in the kitchen sink, so that any excess can drain away from the soil down into the drain. "Feed your orchids and wait until the water drains out," Kiva said.

Last month, Graham Rice of the Royal Horticultural Society shared one of his best tips to get an orchid to bloom more than once a year. According to the plant expert, of all the orchid varieties, moth orchids (Phalaenopsis), are probably the easiest orchids to grow at home. If your orchid is looking a tad sad and lacking flowers, you shouldn't give up and throw them away. Instead, you should give them a little TLC and you may be rewarded with some more blooms.

Graham explained: “There's one easy trick that helps enormously: make sure that the temperature at night is lower than the day temperature." He noted that it "doesn't take much" as owners simply have to lower their central heating by a few degrees to "kick the plant into flowering."

He explained: "Moving them to a different room in the house may be all they need but it makes a huge difference to most of the orchids we grow in the home.”
