Laura Hamilton has been the face of A Place In The Sun for over a decade now, helping families and couples find their dream property abroad.

Away from the cameras, Kent-born Laura has been busy renovating her own stunning home in the wake of her unexpected divorce from husband of over a decade Alex Howard. The former couple announced their split two years ago and now co-parent their two young children together.

Divorce

In January 2022, Laura announced to her social media followers that she and Alex were splitting up after nine years of marriage. The Channel 4 presenter shared news on Instagram with a picture of some words by Dr. Seuss: "Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened."

Captioning the post, Laura told her followers: "This isn't something I ever thought I'd be saying but, after 13 years of being together Alex and I have separated. Our children are and always will be our number one priority and we would respect privacy for our family at this time. Laura."

Laura later explained to HELLO! magazine why they chose to go their separate ways: "It was a decision we both came to. We have an enormous amount of respect for each other, but we are now on different paths. At the point it was announced, we'd already overcome a lot of difficult times. But I am lucky that we have the relationship and respect for each other that we have, and our children's happiness will always be our priority."

Even after splitting up, they've stayed friendly for their kids, Rocco, 10, and Tahlia, 8, taking them on holiday together to places like Spain and Greece. Laura has shared how tough the divorce has been, saying she cried lots but had to stay strong for her children. In another chat with HELLO!, Laura shared her feelings: "You say content, but I have moments when I feel this is tough, this is hard, this is not what I expected my life to be. But I'm a glass-half-full person and I have to be positive. I have to be strong. Am I making the best of the situation as I can right now? Yes, 100 per cent."

Moving on

Two years on, Laura is ready to move on and find her perfect match and someone who will be her "best friend". In a chat with The Sun last year, she said: "I've been on some great dates, to some lovely restaurants, on a picnic, to the theatre. But I get the 'ick' quite quickly. Once I've got the ick, I'm done. Usually after two dates I know he isn't my Prince Charming and then I don't think it's fair to waste anyone's time. If it's not a 'F***, yes', it's a 'No'. I'm a complete romantic. For me, it's all about chemistry and a genuine connection."

Career change

Despite being best known for presenting A Place In The Sun and other TV roles, Laura has enjoyed quite a varied career over the years. Aside from helping couples find their dream homes, she has also hosted Channel 5's Cowboy Builders & Bodge Jobs and appeared as a guest location presenter on ITV's This Morning.

In 2011, just before joining A Place In The Sun, Laura competed in the ITV reality show Dancing On Ice, where she was paired with Canadian skater Colin Ratushniak. They were one of only four pairs to score a perfect 30.0 out of 30.0, but they came second to winners Sam Attwater & Brianne Delcourt. In 2014, Laura tried her hand at reality TV again by joining the winter sports series The Jump, but she was eliminated five days in after losing a ski-jump off against fellow contestant Donal MacIntyre.

Home renovation

Fans of A Place in the Sun won't be surprised that Laura's home is stunning and beautifully decorated. The Channel 4 presenter's kitchen is particularly eye-catching with its lovely marble island and bespoke table complete with rattan chairs. Laura often shares glimpses of her home with fans online.

She shared pictures of her finished house reno on Instagram, saying: "My kitchen is almost finished - there is still a fair bit of painting to do but I LOVE IT! It has been a rollercoaster of a journey and like all projects things haven't always gone to plan. I have designed my property from start to finish (the end is in sight) and Rocco and Tahlia have been very much part of the journey too. I think they have enjoyed watching it progress each week and seeing it transform from a 'build project' to a 'HOME'."
