Gary Lineker has revealed that Paul Gascoigne would sometimes poo in the communal team baths after England games.

The duo played alongside each other for several years for the Three Lions and at Tottenham, most famously at Italia 90. That came during a time when players would share a bath after matches.

Gascoigne was renowned for being a class clown and frequently pulled pranks on his team-mates. And Lineker has now disclosed that one of those pranks was the disgusting habit of pooing in the bath.

"Gazza used to let one go in the big communal bath occasionally. It’s not a thing anymore, but can you believe that’s how it used to be in sport? At the end of the game you would be covered in mud and whatever else, and you’d all jump in a bath together," he told Joe Lycett's Turdcast podcast.

"Usually I would say the communal one would be like a big hot tub. There was no bubbles except when people farted obviously. It did happen on a couple of occasions, he’d do it for a laugh.

"You’ve never seen baths evacuated as quickly. Gazza always found it difficult to know where the line was. He was genuinely very funny on other occasions. He never lacked confidence to do a joke."

Lineker got his own back on Gascoigne in the bath though back when they were playing at Spurs. The former striker was stretching in the bath when Gazza decided to join him, though he stayed in for too long.

“At Maine Road, it was a big one. So I put the hot water on, filled it up, got in and stood there, did a few stretches of thighs, hamstring, calves. Then Gazza walked in and said ‘You’re always doing that, why do you do it,’" Lineker told The Rest Is Football podcast.

"I told him it was to stretch and made me feel better before I warmed up. He said: ‘I might try it!’ And I told him he should for a couple of minutes, bosh, and then up you get. I got out. He jumped in.

"I went and put my kit on, went out onto the pitch. I did 15/20 minutes of a warm-up, put my shin pads on. I went back into the bathroom, I looked over and Gazza was still in the bath, he’d been in there for 20 minutes and he had the water up to his neck.

"It was boiling hot and his face looked like a strawberry. I said ‘Don’t tell me you’ve been in there since I left?’ He went ‘Wey aye, it’s great’. I thought ‘For Christ sake!’. So we went out onto the pitch. We played the first half and we were all over the shop. He was having one.

“He was going ‘Oi Links, what have you done, what have you done to me, I’m all giddy’. Honestly, this is true. We sat down in the dressing room at half-time and Terry Venables said: ‘Gazza, what’s the matter?’ He said: ‘It’s Lineker’s fault. He told me to have a bath and I’m all dizzy.’ Absolute shambles, it really was. He was a one-off that boy.”
