One of the many perks of being monarch is probably getting to enjoy the most luxurious nighttime routine possible, and the late Queen Elizabeth II certainly did just that. Over the course of her reign - which was the longest in British history lasting over seventy years - she is said to have always indulged in one particularly luxurious habit each evening.

Being the head of the Royal Family, it is unlikely that anyone could really direct the late Queen not to indulge in a little treat every evening, even if it was something that for the rest of us would only be reserved for really special occasions.

The luxurious nighttime ritual in question was allegedly nothing less than a cheeky glass of champagne: living in a palace means that there is always at least that to celebrate, no matter what else is going on, after all.

According to Margaret Rhodes, the Queen's cousin, a glass of bubbly was a core part of the late monarch's evening routine and she never missed having the tipple before she went to bed - per Town and Country.

Unfortunately, the Queen's cousin didn't reveal which was her go-to champagne of choice, but only a few royal warrants have been given out to champagne companies over the years. These include Bollinger, Krug, Moet & Chandon, and Veuve Cliquot.

The late Queen was widely reported to be something of a creature of habit, and champagne wasn't the only alcoholic beverage she was said to have enjoyed: it was also reported that Rhodes claimed with dinner she often enjoyed a glass of sweet wine.

The late Queen was a big fan of dry martinis it has also been widely reported. The love of what Ingrid Seward - editor of Majesty Magazine - called "lethal" martinis was also reportedly shared by her son King Charles.

Back in 2021, it was reported by Vanity Fair that upon doctor's orders, the Queen had been told to cut back on her daily tipples - from the evening champagne to the dry martinis, and even that glass of wine with dinner.

"It's not really a big deal for her, she is not a big drinker but it seems a trifle unfair that at this stage in her life she's having to give up one of very few pleasures," Vanity Fair reported a family friend as saying at the time.
