A teaser trailer for the highly-anticipated Amy Winehouse biopic Back to Black has just been released and it gives fans a glimpse at the upcoming film ahead of its premiere.

The late singer-songwriter is played by Marisa Abela - best known for her role on BBC's Industry - in the film, directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson. The actor and her co-stars were seen filming scenes for the project last year.

The new trailer has been shared by production company STUDIOCANAL ahead of the film's release in the coming months. It's set to the song the flick shares its title with, Back to Black, which was released by Amy in 2007.

The teaser trailer opens with Marisa's Amy at a concert where she's heard saying: "I don't write songs to be famous. I write songs cause I don't know what I'd do if I didn't." She's then seen sharing her thoughts whilst in a recording studio.

One scene shows her late grandmother Cynthia Winehouse (portrayed by Lesley Manville) helping with her signature beehive hairstyle. Another shows Amy getting a tattoo, with her believed to have sported 14 inkings on her body. It also hints that her relationship with Blake Fielder-Civil (played by Jack O'Connell) will be explored, with him seen looking over at her from a balcony as she stands on a stage. Another scene shows her running away from paparazzi.

During a voiceover, Amy states: "I want people to hear my voice and just forget their troubles". Her father Mitch Winehouse (played by Eddie Marsan) also features and in one scene Amy declares that she "ain't no Spice Girl".

A synopsis for the film teases that it's a "celebration" of Amy, who died in 2011, aged 27. It states: "A celebration of the most iconic - and much missed - homegrown star of the 21st century, Back to Black tells the extraordinary tale of Amy Winehouse."

"Painting a vivid, vibrant picture of the Camden streets she called home and capturing the struggles of global fame, BACK TO BLACK honours Amy's artistry, wit, and honesty, as well as trying to understand her demons," it continues.

It's been further teased that the film - which is due to be released in UK cinemas on April 12 and is "coming soon internationally" - is an "unflinching look at the modern celebrity machine and a powerful tribute to a once-in-a-generation talent".
