Milly Zero is making the change from Albert Square to Shakespeare as she has landed a role in a stage production.

The 23-year-old soap star is known to millions as Dotty Cotton on EastEnders - a role she played from 2019 until 2022.

Having quit the soap last year, Milly will now be heading north of London to Stafford where she will be taking on a role in a production of the play A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

Milly will be seen on stage from June 23 until July 9 and will be seen taking on the role of Hermia - a hopeless romantic who falls for a man named Lysander.

Milly wrote on Instagram : “So excited to be joining Kerry Ellis and Jonathan Hyde in playing Hermia in A Midsummer Night’s Dream at Gate House Theatre.

" I have missed being on stage SO much these last few years, so I am excited to return with a new challenge - my first Shakespeare play. Hope to see some of you there.”

In a statement shared by the Gatehouse Theatre, where the production will take place, Milly added: “I can’t wait to get on stage at The Gatehouse, with such a wonderful cast and team.

“Hermia is a wonderfully fiesty, defiant and exciting character and I feel very lucky to get the chance to take her on!’’

Co-star Jonathan - who starred in films including Jumanji and The Mummy - declared: “Shakespeare is very special to me, and so is A Midsummer Night’s Dream; I played Puck in 1978 in the Benjamin Britten opera of the Dream at the Sydney Opera House.

“And Isobel Buchanan, who was singing Helena, married me two years later. So, to be reunited with the Dream 45 years later AND to be playing Nick Bottom is a real thrill.”

While Kerry - who wowed fans in the West End as Elphaba in Wicked - previously told the venue: “I am so excited to be joining the cast of A Midsummer Night’s Dream to play Titania, Queen of the Fairies.

“This will be a new challenge for me and I cannot wait to get going on my first Shakespeare play.”
