EuroMillions jackpot winner explains why she 'wishes she hadn't won lottery'Mr Webley was shot just before midnight outside a pub on West Granton Road, Edinburgh, and died in hospital. Armed police raced to the scene while paramedics tried to save the 36-year-old, with witnesses saying all hell let loose shortly before midnight. Locals reported hearing gunshots around the time of the incident, with one saying: "I thought it was fireworks at first then saw all the blue lights, ambulances and armed police. It was bedlam just before the bells."
Mr Webley, 38, died from a head wound after a balaclava-clad gunman ambushed him outside the bar and fired the fatal shot. Another man, aged 39, was also injured and is receiving treatment in hospital. Police say the gunman jumped out of a red Hyundai Tucson to carry out the attack before driving away. A gangland source later told the Daily Record £20,000 was offered to take down Webley.
Webley had been due to stand trial for assaulting his ex-partner. It’s understood one of their children had been playing football when he attacked the mum of three, now 40, on the sidelines of the pitch. He was later charged with assault and was due to appear in court later this year. He also faced trial over alleged breach of the peace and driving offences last year.
Detective Grant said prior to the arrests: "We are appealing for any information or footage of the suspect vehicle and its movements before and after the incident happened. If you saw this vehicle in the surrounding area late on Sunday evening, we would like to hear from you."
He had previously been jailed for 11 years after shooting a drugs gang rival, and was linked to Euromillions winner Jane who made history after scooping the £1m jackpot at the age of 17. Jane left a single love heart as a tribute on the photograph. She is said to have called time on their relationship just three weeks ago.
