If you’re an Xbox player on a budget, or you just don’t want to pay full price when a new AAA game releases, Xbox Game Pass is a beautiful thing. For one low price per month you get access to an ever-rotating library of games on Xbox Series X |S or Xbox One (depending on your subscription tier). However, as with most subscriptions, it can be incredibly easy to just let it lapse, until before long you’ve gone months paying for Xbox Game Pass without actually playing anything. You’re therefore not getting your money’s worth. Hence why it’s good to know how to cancel Xbox Game Pass.

Fortunately, the process to cancel Xbox Game Pass is incredibly straightforward – either on the actual console itself or from a web browser. So, if you feel like you’re not getting as much value as you think you used to, or a game you like is no longer in the library, here’s a step-by-step guide on how to cancel Xbox Game Pass.

How to cancel Xbox Game Pass on an Xbox console

To cancel an Xbox Game Pass subscription either on an Xbox Series X|S or Xbox One, follow these steps:

  1. Press the Xbox button on the controller to bring up the menu.
  2. Click over to the “Profile & System” tab.
  3. From here follow this path “Settings” > “Account” > “Subscriptions”.
  4. Select the relevant Xbox Game Pass subscription you’re on.
  5. Here’s where you should select “Turn off recurring billing”.
  6. After following the instructions, your current Xbox Game Pass subscription will end after the next upcoming expiration date.

How to cancel Xbox Game Pass in a web browser

To cancel an Xbox Game Pass subscription on a web browser either on PC or mobile, follow these steps:

  1. Head to account.microsoft.com and on the home screen click “Services & Subscriptions” on the top nav bar.
  2. Find the relevant Xbox Game Pass subscription in the list and click “Manage”.
  3. Here’s where you should select “Cancel Subscription”.
  4. You’ll be prompted with a list of various other plan options. Go ahead and click “Cancel Subscription” again, this time at the bottom.
  5. Your current Xbox Game Pass subscription will end after the next upcoming expiration date.

And that’s how to cancel your Xbox Game Pass subscription either via console or browser. Just bear in mind that once you do, you’ll lose access to any of the games you had downloaded that were previously accessed from the Xbox Game Pass catalogue.
