Omid Scobie branded a 'fantasist' as Ed Balls explodes in furious rant

Omid Scobie has been slammed by former politician Ed Balls who has branded the royal author a ‘fantasist’ after his latest biography about the royal family made accusations that two senior royals had made comments about the skin colour of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s child.

The 42-year-old journalist - who has worked for the gossip magazine Us Weekly in the past as well as high society magazine Harper’s Bazaar - has been something of a thorn in the side of the monarchy and has acted as something of a mouthpiece for 39-year-old Harry, the Duke of Sussex, and his American wife Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, 42. But his latest novel, titled Endgame, has sensationally named two members of the royal family and alleges that they questioned the skin colour of Harry and Meghan’s son, Archie, before he was born.

A severe backlash has been unleashed after the names made their way into a Dutch version of the book - although Omid has claimed he didn’t name the royals, sparking a mystery over how the names ended up in the Dutch version of the book. The scandal has also sparked serious debate in the UK over - with many turning on Omid and have questioned how serious his accusations should be taken.

Former Labour MP Ed, 56, has joined the line of people slating Omid over the scandalous allegations. Appearing on Good Morning Britain on Monday, Ed blasted the writer, saying: “Isn't this guy a fantasist? Why are we even reading out this rubbish?”

Journalist Kevin Maguire also appeared on the ITV show and said: “He has clearly got some good contacts and he is milking them to maximise them. But we didn't know about the names being in the letters. We do now. So he's not an entire fantasist unless that is untrue.”

The scandal has rocked the royal family - and seemingly damaged friendships that Harry has as reports have claimed he and Meghan have been explicitly not invited to a high society wedding. Hugh Grosvenor, the Duke of Westminster, who is also a godfather to young Archie, is due to tie-the-knot with Olivia Henson in June next year.

But it has been reported that Harry and Meghan have not been invited to the big day - while William, Prince of Wales and Catherine, Princess of Wales, have been invited. Reports have suggested Hugh and his soon-to-be wife don’t want Harry and Meghan to attend over fears they will bring “drama” with them that will overshadow the happy day.

Ed hinted at this rift, saying: “If you are the new Duke of Westminster and you're about to get married, you wouldn't invite them [Harry and Meghan].” Meanwhile, Obie has insisted he didn’t name any royals in the original writing of his book. He has claimed: "The version that I signed off... has no names in it.”
