Kate Middleton is known for her simple Christmas breakfast while her husband Prince William enjoys a more lavish feast, according to a former royal chef.

With hundreds of servants and chefs at their disposal, the Royal Family can have whatever they fancy for meals - but surprisingly, many of them prefer healthier options. The late Queen was famous for her disciplined diet of simple meals with fresh ingredients. And similarly, the Princess of Wales is known for maintaining her fitness with nutritious food.

Even on Christmas Day, Catherine is said to opt for a light breakfast of fruit and toast instead of a greasy fry-up or luxurious smoked salmon and eggs.

Former Royal chef Darren McGrady shared that on Christmas morning in Sandringham, the men and women in the Royal household have separate breakfasts. He told The Daily Mail: "On Christmas Day, the ladies generally opt for a light breakfast of sliced fruit, half a grapefruit, toast and coffee delivered to their rooms."

Meanwhile, the men enjoy a heartier breakfast, usually including eggs, bacon, mushrooms, kippers and grilled kidneys.

And the King and his family's Christmas meal is surprisingly normal, according to McGrady. "It was the same meal every year," he said. "They're actually boring when it comes to festivities. They didn't do hams or anything, just traditional turkeys."

"We did three turkeys for the Queen and her family in the royal dining room, one for the children's nursery and then more for the 100 or so staff, so everyone had a Christmas lunch." McGrady added: "The turkey is served with mashed and roast potatoes, chestnut or sage and onion stuffing, cranberry sauce and bread sauce. Vegetables include brussels sprouts, carrots and roast parsnips."

For dessert, a homemade Christmas pudding is served. It's "decorated in holly, doused in brandy, and the palace steward would carry it, flaming, into the royal dining room," he revealed.

As for drinks, the late Queen always chose a classic gin and dubonnet cocktail before starting her meal. The former chef also revealed the former Monarch would often enjoy a glass of the sweet and aromatic German white wine Gewurztraminer with her meals.
