Struggling to get to sleep at night? According to a recent study, January is the worst month for sleep, with almost half of Brits not getting enough rest.

The NHS recommends that adults get between seven and nine hours of sleep every night, but according to data collected by botanical experts Cannabotech, only half of the population (56%) manage to do so in January.

If the festive season has hit your sleeping pattern out of sync, you're in luck. Max Stevens, a sleep expert from The Checklist, has looked at the most popular sleep hacks on TikTok, and found which ones are the most useful.

One hack which Max recommends is keeping your bedroom at a specific temperature to make sure you're able to drift off quicker.

It's tempting to keep your bedroom nice and toasty, but this may not actually be the best thing when it comes to getting quality sleep.

TikTok user Bobby, who posts content under the username @Bobbbaaaay, recently shared a video with seven ways of increasing your sleep quality. His first tip was to keep your bedroom temperature at between 18 to 20 degrees Celsius.

It can be tempting to max out your central heating in the winter, but according to Max, this could have a negative impact on your health.

Because your internal temperature cools down at night, a warm bedroom can cause you to have disrupted sleep.

Max said: "This tip is great. Your body needs a cool environment to fall asleep and keeping the temperature between 18 to 20 degrees is the perfect temperature for quality sleep too."

"Any cooler or hotter and it may affect your body's internal temperature. This is one of the main reasons why many of us find it hard to sleep in the warmer months."

One of the other sleeping methods Max reviewed was rubbing pressure points.

According to TikTok's Dr Eileen (@anew.acu), rubbing pressure points on your body can help your body relax and with insomnia.

The acupuncturist advises people to ball your hand up into a fist, where your little and middle finger touch your hand and make a note of these locations.

At the point where your pinky touches your hand is known as your heart point, while where your middle finger touches is your pericardial point.

You should then rub these points for 30 seconds each and repeat three times, which should send you to sleep.

Max said: "The science of using acupuncture to help with sleep is limited, all studies that have been performed are small in size and limited. With that said there are no studies to say that it doesn't work and I could see this technique helping some."

"Whether the rubbing of pressure points has any effect on the heart is unknown, I could see this working as it will cause you to relax and empty your mind as you are performing the small motions which in turn will make you sleepy."
