Roblox servers are down worldwide as outraged gamers flock to social media forums to express their frustration with the software.

At approximately 5pm, the game crashed, allegedly due to a sharp influx of users, wrote Twitter account @rtrack_live, which monitors Roblox software and provides tips and tricks for developer improvement.

Around 7.9 million users were on the platform at that time, causing the game to crash, the account wrote. There was a brief recovery period about 40 minutes later, when 5.9 million users were tracked using the platform, which subsequently crashed again.

No official statements from the developers have been released - the Roblox official social media platforms have been radio silent about the issue. The outage is reportedly making it impossible to access the game and its content.

A thread on the Reddit page R/Roblox, a forum where gamers can chat about the game and their experiences playing it, noted the outage, with several Redditors expressing their fury at the crash - though some did also note that the game was still working for them. It is rumoured that specific regional servers might be down, not all of them across the world.

"Time to see if it’s down for a couple hours or half a week i guess," u/StaleMeatMachine wrote, as another user, u/KeratinYourFace, noted that a similar outage happened in 2020 at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, which saw millions of people stranded inside without much else to do but game.

The popular multiplayer game just recently launched on PlayStation, which may be resulting in an uptick in players. It was a move highly anticipated in the game's fandom for several years.

Several other Redditors said game updates might have been to blame, partially joking about the improvements to the popular weapon Blox Fruits in the game. Another noted that the servers might just be out of date to begin with and should be updated.

Jokes ensued as some said the outage meant that it was time to go outside and get some fresh air, exercise or simply get away from their computers or video game console screens.

One hilarious Twitter user, @Sibyle79, posted a gif of Spongebob and Patrick from the popular TV series "Spongebob Squarepants" running around frantically in their underwear, noting that her kids were currently doing the same amid the outage.

It remains unclear when the servers will be back up nor whether anyone experiencing issues with the game have seen them resolved yet. None of the accounts related to Roblox, including those that track server health, have posted about a recovery.

@rtrack_live tweeted at around 7:30pm that it believed the source of the issue to be the Blox Fruits update: "Given that Blox Fruits is now privated, it seems likely that Blox Fruits' sudden success is what caused this outage. We see in the data a sudden increase in Blox Fruits players just before the outage."
