Air fryer that makes chips 'better than McDonald's' gets hefty price drop
An air fryer that one home cook claims makes chips "better than McDonald's" has seen a hefty price reduction as part of Amazon's Prime Big Deal Days. The two day event began on Tuesday and ends tonight (October 11), with discounts offered across thousands of brands including tech, beauty and home appliances.
One of the kitchen gadgets to have boomed in popularity in the past couple of years is air fryers. Many people who've added the cooking appliance to their worktops swear by their efficiency and ability to make stunning chips, plus all sorts of healthier options.
If you're keen to give one a go then now could be the perfect time to snap one up for cheaper than usual, with some big offers up for grabs. One air fryer which is proving popular is the Tower T17088 Vortx 9L Duo Basket Air Fryer, which Amazon says more than 6,000 people have bought over the last month, Wales Online reports.
It has 29% off, making it £99.99, rather than the £139.99 RRP and includes two large 4.5L baskets, meaning it's a great choice for families or people who typically cook large meals. There are four different ways to cook and the 10 presets make it nice and simple to use.
The reviews seem particularly fond of its ability to make great chips. One customer said: "Bigger than I thought it would be so it lives in the utility room, particularly like the smart finish feature - no more watching the clock when you have multiple things to cook! Tried oven chips first, came out crispier and fluffier than the oven. Steak and chops are done to perfection, really tender. I put kitchen towel under the grill plate to soak up any grease, easier to clean than the oven!"
Amazon is selling 32 packs of Walkers ready salted crisps for just £10Another said: "I like the fact I can cook at least 2 things at a time, I’m still learning stuff but it’s so much quicker than the oven, and hopefully cheaper and more healthier lol oh my grandson said my chips are better than McDonald’s… bonus!!"
Not everybody agreed, however, as one wrote: "Disappointed with this product. Chips took longer than in the oven or my old air fryer. Quite difficult to use the controls it is taking time to get used to it. Cooking chicken was not that good much better in conventional oven. However, I haven’t had it very long so it may improve with time."
Amazon has also reduced the price of the Tower T17021 Family Size Air Fryer with Rapid Air Circulation. Originally £69.99, the family-friendly air fryer is now down to £38.80.
There is a slight catch in that the deals can only be accessed if you're an Amazon Prime member. However, if you haven't signed up then fear not as the shopping giant will let you try the service for free. While you won't be charged for your free trial, membership is converted to a paid membership plan at the end of the trial period unless you cancel it.
Which is the best air fryer?
It's difficult to pick out the best air fryer given all the options out there but Mirror reviews writer Gareth Butterfield absolutely swears by the Salter Aerogrill Pro 16-in-1. He said: "I love it because it takes the air fryer concept and turns it on its head, almost literally. Rather than just having the capability to evenly roast a basket of chips, or a whole chicken, it can bake, dehydrate, or even barbecue.
"Yep, that's right, one of its best features is its grilling mode. You will not find an air fryer that handles a succulent steak like the Aerogrill Pro. It even adds a distinctive char-grill flavour. I've no idea how, it just does."
The product hasn't had any discount applied to it and is £98.99 on Amazon, but can be found cheaper from Salter directly where it's priced at £79.99.
