The first images of Antony back in Manchester United training have surfaced since the Brazil international was placed on a leave of absence.

The former Ajax star last featured for United in their 3-1 Premier League defeat at Arsenal at the start of September. He was placed on a leave of absence by the club following allegations of physical assault, which he denies.

In the lead-up to United's weekend match against Crystal Palace, it emerged that Antony would be reintegrated into first-team training. He was not part of the squad for Saturday's game, which United lost 1-0, but was spotted at Old Trafford.

“Since allegations were first made in June, Antony has cooperated with police inquiries in both Brazil and the UK, and he continues to do so," a statement released by United read. “As Antony’s employer, Manchester United has decided that he will resume training at Carrington, and be available for selection, while police inquiries proceed.

“This will be kept under review pending further developments in the case. As a club, we condemn acts of violence and abuse. We recognise the importance of safeguarding all those involved in this situation, and acknowledge the impact these allegations have on survivors of abuse.”

A number of photos of Antony have appeared following his return. The 23-year-old is considered available for selection, but it remains to be seen whether he will be thrown into the starting line-up to face Galatasaray in the Champions League.

Earlier in the week, The Mail reported that Antony's return was approved after discussions involving United's women's team. The meeting is said to have been headed up by chief communications officer Ellie Norman, with director of football John Murtough also present.

Antony denies the allegations made against him and has not been arrested or charged in the UK or Brazil in connection with them, and continues to cooperate fully with inquiries in both countries.

United boss Erik ten Hag was asked about the speed with which Antony might return to action. The manager was non-commital on the matter, but did confirm he had spoken with the player.

“I can’t tell at this moment, first he has to be back,” Ten Hag said on Friday. “I've spoken to him, but that doesn’t give you the impression of how he is, how his mental status is.

“On Saturday he will be back in training. No, I don't think it's a distraction. We will focus on the games. He will do as well.”
