Nicole Kidman looks completely different in newly-released promotional photos for her upcoming TV series Expats ahead of its premiere on Prime Video.

The actress, 56, is among the cast of the Prime Video show, which is based on Janice Y. K. Lee's best-selling novel The Expatriates, released in 2016. The six-part limited series is set to be released through the streaming platform next year.

First-look photos have been shared this week ahead of a world premiere screening of an episode at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) in Canada on Friday. They provide a glimpse at the cast in character, including Nicole.

Nicole - who plays the character Margaret in the show - doesn't have her typically lengthy hair in the photos. The actor instead is seen sporting a much shorter hairstyle in character, with two scenes she's in teased in the photos.

She appears in the upcoming series alongside co-stars Sarayu Blue and Ji-young Yoo, with them all in leading roles. They play three women whose lives after affected by an encounter that "sets off a chain of life-altering events".

The promotional photos - released by the streaming platform earlier this week - also showcased both Sarayu and Ji-young as their respective characters. The former plays Hilary in the series, whilst the latter plays Mercy.

The cast of Expats - which it's been teased is "coming to Prime Video early 2024" - also includes Brian Tee, who plays Nicole's on-screen husband. Jack Huston is also a cast member, with him said to play Sarayu's on-screen husband.

A synopsis for the new show states: "Set against the vibrant and tumultuous tapestry of 2014 Hong Kong, Expats centers on three American women - Margaret, Hilary and Mercy - whose lives intersect after a sudden family tragedy."

It's further teased that the series - created, directed, written and produced by Lulu Wang - "interrogates privilege" and explores what happens "when the line between victimhood and culpability becomes blurred".

Although best known for her film roles, Nicole has featured in a various TV shows over the course of her decades-long career. She notably played Celeste Wright in the acclaimed Big Little Lies, which ran for two season from 2017 to 2019.

She later appeared in shows like The Undoing and Nine Perfect Strangers. And her most recently released project was Special Ops: Lioness, with the actor playing Kaitlyn Meade in the Paramount+ series that premiered in July.
