Harrowing footage shows the moment a schoolgirl is left dangling from a Ferris wheel after she lost her footing on the ride.

The unnamed girl screams in terror as she is left 30ft up in the air. She holds on for dear life with both hands as her legs swing about.

“She is about to fall down,” a shocked onlooker is heard saying. Two men are seen clambering up the metal structure to try to reach her. The wheel - which is 40ft high - is still going round.

The girl - who was with 14 classmates enjoying a circus - was unhurt after the drama in Mansbal Park, in the Ganderbal district, of Central Kashmir, India.

One witness said: “There were nearly 15 students enjoying the ride when the girl fell down through a crack of the bucket. She managed to grab the iron bars of the bucket which allowed workers to stop the ride.”

One claimed the girl lost her balance after the ride appeared to speed up. Another bystander filmed the horror mishap in a 16-second video on their mobile phone. The accident is being investigated by local authorities.

Earlier this year, a rollercoaster malfunctioned and left riders hanging upside down for several hours. The incident occurred at the Forest County Festival in Crandon, Wisconsin on Sunday. Video footage circulating on social media showed stranded passengers on the stalled rollercoaster while rescuers worked to free them.

Emergency responders from neighbouring counties were called to assist. The Crandon Fire Department stated that there was a mechanical failure causing the ride to become stuck in the upright position, but the exact cause remains unknown. Fortunately, all passengers were eventually rescued and taken to the hospital for evaluation.

There were eight people stuck in the nightmarish incident, and seven of them were children, authorities said. The Antigo Fire Department was called to the scene and conducted a rescue operation using their aerial tower apparatus.
