Dan Gore will stay at Manchester United this summer - despite being sent off during their pre-season humbling to Wrexham.

Gore, 18, was dismissed during the friendly in San Diego, which ended in a 3-1 victory for the Welsh minnows. Erik ten Hag was "disappointed" with his players after the match and criticised their "erratic" display". Gore was United's captain that day.

Although Gore failed to impress against Wrexham, Ten Hag has seen enough to make him part of his plans. It's believed the attacking midfielder won't leave Old Trafford on loan before the summer transfer window slams shut on September 1.

Gore is yet to make his competitive first-team debut for Ten Hag's side but has featured four times in the EFL Trophy and helped United win the FA Youth Cup in May 2022. He was recently handed a new long-term contract by the Red Devils last month.

As reported by the Manchester Evening News, Gore will not be completing a transfer in the coming days. The emerging talent is rated highly by United's youth staff and Ten Hag might require his services with Mason Mount and Kobbie Mainoo nursing injuries.

United's U21 boss Travis Binnion was asked about Gore's future after United's EFL Trophy clash at League Two promotion candidates Stockport on Tuesday night. Gore started the game, which the Red Devils won 5-3 on penalties after a 1-1 draw.

"You'd have to ask the manager that, I'm not too sure," said Binnion. "He's with them (first-team) every day, he's doing really well up there and I think you can from pre-season and from the performance the other night, he's improving by being with them.

"Regarding his performance tonight, he's always competitive, he's got real good quality and I think the way he's driven with the ball and left senior players behind was excellent. His character (impresses me) as well. He was on one leg and he was still pressing. He's a really good player and we're really pleased with his progression."

Gore was handed the armband for United's pre-season loss to Wrexham. Binnion took charge of the game with Ten Hag watching on, as they deployed a team of youngsters. The only senior professional to play for United against Wrexham was Jonny Evans.

Ten Hag shared his frustration after that defeat. He said: "We’re disappointed with ourselves. The way we played in the first half was a little bit erratic to the structure. We had some other objective that it was not [just] the result, but with young players, we have to learn from it and I’m sure they will do."

Ten Hag added: "It definitely is (physical) in the Premier League, so our players have to get used to it. You don’t face this is in youth football; this is men’s football and it is really good that they have this experience. It’s negative but you learn from it."
