A 28-year-old man has died after being stabbed on a multi-million-pound London street.

A murder investigation has been launched after the man died in hospital after being knifed in Clerkenwell, Islington.

The alarm was raised at about 11.20pm on Wednesday after reports of a stabbing on Lloyd Baker Street.

The emergency services discovered a 28-year-old man with stab wounds.

He was rushed to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries on Thursday.

His next of kin have been informed, and they are receiving support from specialist officers, Metropolitan Police confirmed.

Dozens of floral tributes along with candles and balloons were tied to the fence on Lloyd Baker Street to remember the victim.

Detectives are hunting the attacker, while no arrests have been made.

Police were given boosted stop and search powers for people and vehicles stretching from Caledonian Road, Clerkenwell and Hoxton from Friday afternoon until 6am today.

Chief Superintendent Jason Stewart, who leads policing in the local area, said: ‘This is a tragic incident, and our thoughts remain with the family and friends of the young man who has lost his life.

‘You can expect to see additional officers in the area providing visible reassurance and working with partners to keep the public safe.

‘The victim was found in a residential street, and members of the public may have information of vital importance to our investigation. If you can help, please come forward.’
