Zach Wilson has New York Jets fans concerned after one of his passes were intercepted by a member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers defense during joint practice.

Wilson, 24, was the second overall pick from the 2021 NFL Draft, but his career hasn't gone to plan so far, with the quarterback set to play second fiddle to four-time league MVP, Aaron Rodgers, this season. The Jets acquired the NFL veteran in a blockbuster trade from the Green Bay Packers but Wilson's slack pass has fans concerned that he isn't close to making Rodgers' "life hell", as he said he would when hypothetically discussing the prospect of a veteran quarterback arriving.

The Jets QB drew collective groans from those in attendance to watch the joint practice scrimmage when he threw the ball straight to a defender for a simple turnover. "I ask again, has there ever been a worse QB than Zach Wilson?" one fan blasted on Twitter.

But for Wilson's poor pass, there were also some good ones, in particular his deep ball, which found CJ Uzomah. Wilson's inch-perfect pass floated over the top of the defender and into Uzomah's arms. "Zach Wilson just threw an absolute dime to CJ Uzomah," a viewer raved. "I’ll tell you what: If this is what this offense looks like when there’s no pressure .. oh boy."

Rodgers has taken Wilson under his wing, which the Jets and head coach Robert Saleh would have been hoping for, with the young QB still very much in the franchise's long-term plans. The hope is that Rodgers' presence and guidance will help Wilson eventually fulfil his potential in the NFL.

In HBO's "Hard Knocks" Rodgers has been seen coaching Wilson through plays and helping him with his pass selection. Wilson also impressed in the preseason fixtures against the Cleveland Browns, and the Carolina Panthers, with the latter ending in a 27-0 victory.

Carolina receiver Adam Thielen told Wilson, who went 14-for-20 with 123 yards and a touchdown during the opening half: "Go have some fun this year. Stay in it, man. Don’t let other people say who you are. Just go and fricken prove it. You’re a hell of a player. Just believe it.

“I know it’s tough, man. This league’s tough, man. This league’s tough. But you just gotta fricken go prove it every day. Every day in practice. Every day fricken, when you get a chance, just go prove it. You don’t have to talk about it.”

Wilson is expected to be the Jets' quarterback for the remainder of the preseason, with the franchise keen to keep Rodgers on the injury list ahead of the highly anticipated 2023 NFL season. The Jets have high hopes this year and their offense has just been boosted by the free agency acquisition of four-time Pro Bowl running back Dalvin Cook.
