Paul Mullin has opened up on the hospitality of Wrexham's Hollywood owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney while recovering from a punctured lung - including being gifted a PlayStation.

Wrexham beat Manchester United 3-1 in their penultimate pre-season match, but it saw them lose star striker Mullin to a punctured lung after he collided with young goalkeeper Nathan Bishop. After rushing to hospital the striker was told that he'd have to fully recover in the United States before returning home, meaning that his team-mates left without him.

Mullin was therefore stranded in the United States, or at least he would have been if it wasn't for the Wrexham owners. McElhenney shared pictures of himself with the Wrexham striker after putting him up in an apartment and visiting his star player to keep him company.

He's now back home and hoping to make a quick comeback, and Wrexham will be delighted to have him back in their biggest season for over 15 years. Reynolds and McElhenney have done wonders for Wrexham since buying the team and their treatment of Mullin shows just how much they care.

"Rob, Ryan and everyone at the club have looked after me amazingly," Mullin wrote in The Athletic. "The owners even sent a PlayStation to the Long Beach apartment where we were staying. It helped pass the time.

"Ryan offered to fly my entire family out and Rob said I could stay with him in his Los Angeles home. I’m sure he has the room, but I was happy to stay out of the way. So they sorted an apartment for us instead.

"Rob visited me there before heading to Wales for our opening game of the season against MK Dons. I would have loved to be getting on that plane with him, but I had to stay there and rest. I haven’t been able to walk for too long and every time I move it hurts."

Mullin is recovering at a more rapid rate than expected though, meaning that it's likely he will return ahead of time after initially being diagnosed months out on the sidelines. Ahead of Wrexham's match on Tuesday against Walsall, manager Phil Parkinson said: "We've had great news about Mulls the other day," Parkinson said before Tuesday's game with Walsall.

"The specialist is really happy, in particular with the punctured lung. There were no complications, which is always a fear. We didn't know that until yesterday [Monday] so he's going to be back in weeks rather than months. That's really good for us."

Wrexham picked up their first point of the 2023/24 season on Saturday with a 1-1 draw against AFC Wimbledon. They were leading the match until conceding a late penalty, one that Ben Foster couldn't keep out.
