Neighbours trailer sees Mischa Barton and Guy Pearce lead stars in soap reboot
Mischa Barton, Guy Pearce and Stefan Dennis delighted loyal fans as they made their debut in the new Neighbours reboot on Amazon Freevee.
The future of the iconic Australian soap was in serious doubt last year when it was announced Channel 5 would be dropping it after failing to secure funding, prompting outcry from fans who were left devastated by the news. However, the show was then bought by Amazon Freevee, and the much-anticipated reboot, which sees Guy and Stefan return to Ramsay Street for the revival, will return on 18 September with daily episodes dropping on the streaming service.
The upcoming episodes – which are set two years after the soap's episode, which saw many big names return to Ramsay Street for one last goodbye – tease big storylines for new and old characters, and Guy, who plays Mike Young, has reconciled with former flame Jane Harris, played by Annie Jones.
Stefan Dennis has returned to the reboot as Paul Robinson (Freevee)But their reunion may not have a happy ending, as in the new trailer for the show released on Tuesday, Jane is seen telling Mike in the woods: “I have been keeping something from you.” The trailer also teased a wedding in the fictional Melbourne suburb of Erinsborough, with church bells ringing out and a wedding car seen approaching as the residents gather for the big day.
Neighbours icon Stefan has also returned to the reboot as businessman Paul Robinson, and in one wedding scene, he’s asked by younger sister Lucy Robinson: “Not having second thoughts about today, are you?”

Mischa Barton makes her debut as Reece (Freevee)Elsewhere in the trailer newcomer Mischa Barton, who plays Reece Sinclair, begins dating Byron Stone (Xavier Molyneux), but her behaviour has sparked concern, with Paul asking staff: “I want you to find out exactly what she’s been doing since she’s been here.” Later, Lucy asks Paul why he’s so suspicious of Reece, prompting him to reply: “Because she is a spy.”
Neighbours stalwart Alan Fletcher, who plays Karl Kennedy, and his on-screen wife Susan, portrayed by Jackie Woodburne, also appear in the trailer for the new chapter of the long-running soap.
Susan Kennedy has also returned (Freevee)“A lot has happened in the last two years,” Susan tells the camera, hinting at the jump forward in time on the show. “I’m worried about what I’ll say, I’m worried that there’ll be no coming back from it,” she teased.
Other stars returning to the reboot include Ryan Moloney (Toadie Rebecchi), April Rose Pengilly (Chloe Brennan) and Georgie Stone (Mackenzie Hargreaves), and Neighbours will return on 18 September, with episodes airing daily from Monday to Thursday.
