Princess Eugenie returns to London in surprise appearance

She opted for a relaxed look, wearing a loose-fitting black T-shirt paired with sports leggings and trainers, and a brightly coloured coat wrapped around her waist.

The sighting marked her return to Britain following the arrival of her daughter, Adelaide Elizabeth Annina, who was born on August 3 at a hospital in Lisbon, Portugal.

It was the first time Eugenie and her husband Jack Brooksbank had welcomed a child outside the UK, having had both their sons at London’s Portland Hospital.

Buckingham Palace confirmed the news with an official statement revealing that Adelaide arrived at 6:20pm, weighing 6lbs 9oz.

The announcement noted that King Charles, Queen Camilla and other members of the Royal Family had been informed and were "delighted."

Eugenie also shared the happy news on her personal Instagram account, writing: "Jack and I are so excited to announce Baby Girl Brooksbank!! We are beyond in love with our girlie."

Adelaide joins her elder brothers August Philip Hawke, five, and Ernest George Ronnie, three, making the Brooksbanks a family of five. Like her siblings, the newborn holds a place in the line of succession to the British throne.

The couple have divided their time between Portugal and the UK since 2022, when Mr Brooksbank took up a role working for property magnate Mike Meldman, a business partner of George Clooney.

Speaking on the Table Manners podcast in 2023, Eugenie described the appeal of her adopted second home: "Portugal is the dream, because I can go to the supermarket in my exercise gear and my hair piled on my head and not mind. Not care. No one cares."

The country also has a connection to Eugenie’s cousin Prince Harry, whose family has retained a Portuguese holiday property even though they have recently relocated back to Britain.

Eugenie’s return to London coincides with that of her mother, Sarah Ferguson, who has also been spending time overseas.

The former Duchess of York had been keeping a low profile abroad following the arrest of her ex-husband, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, in February - the first detention of a royal in modern times - in connection with allegations that he passed confidential information to the late convicted sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein during his tenure as a UK trade envoy.

Mr Mountbatten-Windsor has denied all wrongdoing and has not been charged; Ms Ferguson herself faces no accusations.

A friend of Ms Ferguson told People that she had remained in touch with both Eugenie and Princess Beatrice while away, particularly as she awaited the birth of her newest grandchild.

She is understood to be renting a six-bedroom property in the Home Counties for approximately £8,000 a month.
