PS5 controllers are compatible with a range of devices, including phones and tablets alike, here's how to do it.

If you want to game on the go, but don't want to give up the comfort of playing using a PS5 controller, then you're in luck as you can now connect it to your mobile phone and a range of other compatible devices. You can connect your PS5 controller to your mobile with either a wired or wireless connection.

You can also connect your PS5 controller to a PC for those who have migrated over to the latter platform and prefer the comfort of a DualSense controller.

PS5 controller mobile compatibility

You can use your PS5 controller with a wide range of devices including mobiles, laptops and TVs. Sony has stated that the devices running the following operating systems or sooner are compatible with the PS5 controller via both Bluetooth and a wired connection.

  • macOS Big Sur 11.3
  • iOS 14.5
  • iPadOS 14.5
  • tvOS 14.5
  • Android 12

Once connected, only certain games and applications will utilise the PS5 controller based on support. Depending on the device, some features may be unavailable. To check which Android devices are compatible with the PS5 controller, Sony states to consult your device's manufacturer.

How to connect a PS5 controller to your phone – wired

To connect your PS5 controller to your phone through a wired connection you will first need a compatible cable. The PS5 controller requires a USB-C input, and then the input required by your phone will be based on what device you have.

For example, gamers with iPhones will require a USB-C to Lightning cable to connect their PS5 controller to their phone. Those with a Samsung Galaxy Note 7 or sooner will need a USB-C to USB-C cable.

Once you've got the right cable, it's then as simple as plugging it into both devices, which will connect your PS5 controller directly to your mobile phone, and it should work correctly as long as it is a compatible device.

How to connect a PS5 controller to your phone – wireless

Connecting your PS5 controller to your phone wirelessly requires Bluetooth, so ensure that you have this enabled on your phone and that you allow pairing with a new device if this is the first time you are connecting to your controller. Follow the steps below to pair your PS5 controller with your phone:

  1. Make sure the player indicator on the PS5 controller is off. If the player indicator is on, press and hold the PS button until it turns off. If a USB is connected to the controller, disconnect it.
  2. While pressing and holding the create button, press and hold the PS button until the light bar blinks.
  3. Enable Bluetooth on your device, and then select the controller from the list of Bluetooth devices.
  4. When pairing is complete, the light bar blinks, and then the player indicator lights up.

And then you're set. A PS5 controller can be paired with only one device at a time. Each time you change devices, you must pair the controller with the new device.
