PS5 Discord beta: how to get early access and join voice chats now
The new PS5 system beta update will include Discord voice chat integration, ahead of a full rollout for all users later this year.
PlayStation confirmed via a post on its official blog yesterday that those who are currently enrolled in the PS5 system software beta program will get early access to the much-anticipated Discord integration, as well as variable refresh rate support for 1440p resolution, and a number of UX, accessibility and social feature updates. It stopped short of confirming when exactly Discord will be rolled out to all PS5 consoles, only stating that it will be 'in the coming months', but recent rumours have suggested that it could launch as early as March.
Those who are already part of the PS5 beta program, and are based in the United States, Canada, Japan, United Kingdom., Germany, and France, will have already received an email that contains all of the instructions needed to download the new update. If you're not part of the PS5 beta program yet, don't worry, it's easy to register – although there's no guarantee that you'll be accepted.
How to join the PS5 beta program
Before you request to join the PS5 beta program, you'll have to make sure you meet the eligibility requirements:
- You must be aged 18 years or older
- You must be located in one of the following regions or countries: United States, Canada, Japan, United Kingdom, France, Germany
- You must have a valid PSN account in good standing with a current email address
- You must submit complete and accurate feedback to Sony Interactive Entertainment (“SIE”) about your use of the beta software in the manner and format requested by SIE
Should you meet the requirements above, you can request to join the program. You'll have to sign in to your PlayStation Network account first, and then you'll have to check a tick box to confirm you're agreeing to various terms and conditions associated with the program.

How to join Discord voice chats on PS5
If you're already part of the PS5 beta program, or have recently been accepted, you can start using the Discord integration! Once you've downloaded the new beta system software, you'll be able to join a Discord voice chat, but make sure you follow these steps to get access:
- On your PS5, go to Settings > Users and Accounts > Linked Services
- Click on the Discord option to link your accounts
- Follow the steps to link the accounts, which will need you to use a mobile device or computer to scan a QR code or sign in on a browser
- Once you authorise the login on your mobile app, it's good to go!
Once you've followed these steps you'll be able to use Discord voice chat to communicate with friends on desktop, web, console or mobile using your PS5.
