Baldur's Gate 3 launched last week and we're already three hotfixes deep. The most recent fixes an issue some players have already run into, but also reactivates cross-saves ahead of the game's launch on PS5.

PS5 cross-saves were disabled in hotfix 1 last Friday, just a day after the game's release. As Baldur's Gate 3 doesn't hit PS5 until September 6, 2023 (yes, the same day as Starfield's release), the feature was temporarily removed as it was discovered to be the cause of issues players were running into when saving their game. Steam cloud saves were unaffected and nothing changed in-game, so it was just a matter of waiting for Larian to resolve the problem.

Happily, that's now been sorted out in Baldur's Gate 3 hotfix 2.1 which went live today. It comes hot on the heels of hotfix 2 which was deployed earlier this week, and among a lengthy list of the 800 bugs being tackled in that patch, highlights included certain penises no longer clipping through garments, and gnome sorcerers no longer missing their underpants.

As well as re-enabling cross-saves ahead of the PS5 release, Baldur's Gate hotfix 2.1 fixes an unexpected bug that was corrupting save files. Larian cites the cause as players enjoying the game too much, frankly.

"As it turns out, many of you were doing so much in Baldur’s Gate 3 that some of your personal ‘story’ databases (where your choices and actions are stored) got too big. We now made the size infinite (or at least as infinite as you have storage space), to account for the sheer amount of things you’re all doing on your journeys."

Given the sheer size of Baldur's Gate 3, which is spread across several acts and can take up to 200 hours to complete if you want to see and do everything it has to offer, maybe that particular problem shouldn't have been a complete surprise. Regardless, it's sorted out now! Here are the full patch notes for Baldur's Gate 3 hotfix 2.1 as noted over on the title's Steam page.

Baldur's Gate 3 hotfix 2.1 patch notes

Hello everyone,

As it turns out, many of you were doing so much in Baldur’s Gate 3 that some of your personal ‘story’ databases (where your choices and actions are stored) got too big. We now made the size infinite (or at least as infinite as you have storage space), to account for the sheer amount of things you’re all doing on your journeys.

As of today, we’re also reactivating cross-saves as we near our PlayStation 5 launch.

Hotfix #3 is currently in the oven, and will include further fixes in the near future.

Please reach out to our support team if you encounter any troubles on your journey through the Forgotten Realms.

CHANGES

  • Fixed an issue with save games that could occur if a save file grew too large.
