Khamzat Chimaev takes aim at UFC star Conor McGregor's drinking habits

Khamzat Chimaev has mocked UFC legend Conor McGregor for his drinking habits during a recent visit to the UK.

Chimaev, 29, is currently touring the UK as the unbeaten star was in attendance for UFC London over the weekend. 'Borz' has also visited Birmingham and Manchester, where he was mobbed by fans before heading into a restaurant. Chimaev took a subtle dig at McGregor by tweeting a picture of him holding a bottle of alcohol-free sparkling wine and tagged the former two-weight world champion.

The Chechen-born Swede has a mixed relationship with McGregor as he once stated the Irishman inspired him to make a career out of fighting. Chimaev backtracked on those comments by stating that he once flew to Ireland to confront McGregor over comments he made about his country, claiming he spent eight hours in an Irish prison because of the decision.

McGregor called for Chimaev to be pulled from the last event he fought at after missing weight by 7.5lb for his ill-fated main event against Nate Diaz. Chimaev was rescheduled to face Kevin Holland at the same event, but McGregor believes the match-up was easier for 'Borz' and he should have been punished for his weight miss.

"My opinion they should have pulled Khamzat from the card entirely," he wrote. "Reconfiguring bouts, and with a more favourable bout for the failed cutter, will only make many others in the game follow suit. The smirks on the scale where enough for me. Pull from the card and starve. McG UFC."

Chimaev tapped out Holland in over two minutes and hasn't fought since, but he will return to action in October against former middleweight title challenger Paulo Costa. The rivals had to be when clashing in Las Vegas before Chimaev's last fight and told TNT Sports of the Brazilian: "I'm going to make that guy cry in the cage like I always do. I make everyone scared, all these guys think about me but when it comes to fight they have problems."

McGregor is pencilled-in to make his UFC return in December but the fight remains unofficial because of the Irishman's drug testing status. All UFC fighters need to complete six months of mandatory testing before they are eligible to fight but McGregor is yet to re-enter into the USADA testing pool since his leg break two years ago.
