Aaron Chalmers is planning to use his pre-fight press conference and weigh-in with Floyd Mayweather in London as a chance to "have some fun" with the boxing legend.

The Geordie Shore star has been inspired during his preparations by watching documentaries about Mayweather's old rival Conor McGregor, who shared famous battles on the microphone with the iconic fighter ahead of their 2017 bout. And while he doesn't expect the same fireworks, Chalmers is planning to needle at his opponent.

Mayweather was due to face Muay Thai fighter Liam Harrison on February 25 at The O2 arena in London, but the Brit had to pull out with a knee injury. Chalmers was the first to answer the call from The Money Team and landed himself a massive opportunity in just his second boxing match.

"If the first time I meet him is the Friday, the first thing I'm going to say to him is happy birthday," Chalmers joked during an exclusive chat with Mirror Fighting. "I have to be respectful because it's his birthday on the Friday and then I can start with the s*** talking, but I'm just going to gauge how he is.

"Obviously I'd like to have fun with it as well but I'm going out there to disrespect the man. I'm not a mad disrespectful person, but I'm going to have a lot of fun with it. I might give it 'you're a bit older now, Floyd. You might not move as well as you used to,' but then I'm no spring chicken myself - I'm f***ing 35!

"I just want to have fun and enjoy this whole experience, it's a once in a lifetime experience that I can pass down to my kids and grandkids. The whole of Newcastle, when I walk around everyone is like 'f***ing hell I'm buzzing you're fighting Mayweather', so I'm hoping I have some serious support because I'm just a lad from Newcastle who never gave up, really."

Chalmers' support will be boosted by the following day's football match at Wembley Stadium, where his hometown club Newcastle United take on Manchester United in the Carabao Cup Final. He won't be in attendance, but he hopes travelling fans make the trip a night early to come and enjoy his fight.

"It's like it's written in the stars," he beamed after learning about the connection between the dates. "I fight Floyd Mayweather and Newcastle win the cup? That weekend will f***ing go down in history for me."
