Sky Mobile has launched what seems to be a 'hard-to-miss' deal on the iPhone 14 Pro, dropping a massive £384 off the total price for those who take out an adjacent data plan. It's a great deal but if you dive deeper into the offer it seems shoppers soaking up the buzz of Amazon's Prime Day will get a lot more for their money.

Thanks to the online retailer's 48-hour sale, Apple fans will actually get more of a saving even though this flagship device is only reduced by £188 and not Sky's £384 'offer' on the Apple model.

What's the consumer phrase, shop around? That's exactly what we suggest tech buyers do during a huge sale season like this, as opting for the first spotted deal may see them overpaying by more than £300 if they don't go with Amazon's iPhone 14 Pro price.

Here's how the savings work out...

Sky's iPhone 14 Pro is now '£384 off' for shoppers who take out the 80GB plan alongside the handset, as the monthly price on the data plan is reduced from £33 to just £18 a month. That's a bit of a bargain but when you factor in the price of the handset things suddenly get more expensive.

Those buying the Pro model from Sky will need to stump up £34 per month with Sky signing customers up for a 36-month contract. That means the total paid for the phone is £1,224. You then need to add that £18 for data calls and text which takes to total price to more than £1,800 over three years.

As long as you have a healthy bank balance - and can pay for the phone upfront - it's easy to see why Amazon's deal is cheaper. Thanks to Prime Day 2023 you can buy the iPhone 14 Pro for £959 (saving £150 off the usual price).

Of course, Amazon's handset price does not include data, but there are plenty of SIM-only plans which should still work out better value for money. For example, Three Mobile has a SIM deal which includes 160GB of data for £16 per month. The total price over three years including the phone is just £1,535 - that's £300 less than Sky.

Provider Smarty offers data from as little as £6 a month, it's 200GB plan costs £17 a month and is the closest alternative to Sky's 'offer'. Once again, this way of buying the device will work out cheaper.

Of course, you will need £959 in the bank to secure these deals as Amazon won't spread the cost of the device over three years but, if you can afford it, it will save you money in the long run.
