Here are five reasons why nothing beats a Jet2holidays trip to Split:

1. Stunning coastlines

Split has kilometres of stunning beaches ranging from sandy spots popular with sunbathers to rocky shores shaded by hillsides.

Bacvice Beach is a sandy beach perfect for all the family to enjoy and its shallow waters are ideal for children. Kasjuni Beach is a very good option on the western side of the town whilst Stobreč Beach is a pebbly cove with shallow waters and a little quieter.

2. The wonders of the ancient world

If you're after a city break packed with history and culture then Split won't disappoint.

The impressive 2,000-year-old Diocletian's Palace and medieval old town are both Unesco World Heritage Sites. The must-see Diocletian's Palace is one of the most remarkable Roman ruins in existence. Split was founded by the Roman Emperor Diocletian in AD295.

You'll also find amazing archaeological sites such as the Roman ruins at Salona - just three miles from Split, where you can walk around the old forum, theatre, public baths and amphitheatre.

3. The amazing culinary scene

The wonderful Split cuisine is served up in family-run restaurants known as Konoba and local dishes include octopus baked under a Peka (a dome-shaped lid) or spit-roasted meat.

The Mussels Alla Buzzara might also tempt you - a delicious seafood stew with olive oil, garlic and white wine. Then there's the Dalmatian speciality dish; the famous Pašticada, a flavoursome beef stew usually served with home-made gnocchi.

Die-hard foodies will enjoy a trip to the bustling fish market or the green market which sells fresh, locally-sourced fruit and vegetables.

4. A vibrant island

Although Split has an awe-inspiring history, it is also a very modern city bursting with buzzing bars, inviting cafes and an exciting nightlife.

Make your way through the ancient narrow streets and explore the best of the local shops and family-friendly restaurants. If you're after a bit more excitement then the seaside promenade at Riva is where you'll find plenty of vibrant nightlife and bars.

Hvar, just an hour’s ferry ride from Split, is another glitzy spot, with marble streets, chic bars and trendy beach clubs.

5. A green oasis

Split’s natural retreats are in abundance and Marjan Forest Park is a green oasis where you can destress in nature just minutes from the old town.

If you are looking for some inspiring nature trails there are endless ones here with paths for running, hiking, walking, or cycling.

And when you want to kick back, why not relax at a picnic site or take in the panoramic views of the city from the top of the Marjan Hill which are simply breathtaking.

Outdoor enthusiasts will also find plenty to excite them in the wider Dalmatia region - picturesque Brač is a cyclist’s favourite destination with 25 well-maintained bike trails. It also has one of the country's best beaches, epic Zlatni Rat.
