Floyd Mayweather has described the carnage which engulfed his fight with John Gotti III as "crazy s***".

Mayweather was taking part in his latest money-spinning exhibition bout in Florida last night as he took on the grandson of infamous mob boss John Gotti. But the event descended into chaos when the 'fight' was stopped in the sixth round with Gotti III disqualified for repeatedly holding on to his opponent.

Gotti III responded by trying to throw punches, despite referee Kenny Bayliss stepping in. A riot ensued as up to 60 people stormed the ring as police officers waded in in an effort to calm proceedings. And in a video since posted to social media, Mayweather is seen in his dressing room saying, "“Man, that sh** was crazy" while being applauded by his entourage.

Mayweather has toured the world taking part in such money-spinning exhibition fights since retiring from the paid ranks in 2017 following his stoppage win over UFC legend Conor McGregor. But the chaotic scenes last night will call into question the validity of such showcases.

Mayweather is understood to have weighed up to two stone less than his opponent who had at least boxed professionally before walking to the ring last night. But that didn't stop the former five-weight world champion from dominating the bout before it was stopped in the sixth round.

But that was far from the end of proceedings as Gotti III, clearly unhappy with referee Kenny Bayliss' intervention, continued to throw punches before the ring was swarmed by up to 60 people. Gotti III was dragged away by members of his team before Mayweather's entourage also entered the squared circle.

The riot spread to the crowd - and ultimately backstage - as police officers attempted to calm the calamitous scenes. Gotti later took to social media to hit out at Mayweather, while dragging McGregor into the row. "You my enemy for life. [ Conor McGregor ], we need back up. Bum never put me down or stopped me it was a DQ for no reason," he wrote.
