Conor McGregor has mocked Floyd Mayweather claiming he was "partying" on yachts before their boxing fight.

McGregor is one of combat sports' biggest stars and made his crossover appearance in the boxing ring in 2017 against legend Mayweather. The fight drew huge audience figures and became the second highest-selling event in fighting history, but the Irishman suffered tenth round defeat.

The pair became rivals throughout the build-up to the clash, with McGregor taking over press conferences by using his brash trash-talking against the relaxed Mayweather. And the boxing legend suggested again he did his talking outside of the ring in a fresh boast on social media.

He boasted alongside a video of his hard-working training session, captioned: “When my opponent is asleep, I’m working and when my opponent is working, I’m working harder!” However McGregor hit back with a typically comical response, tweeting: "I'm on the yachts partying lad, I smacked you more smacks than anyone had."

McGregor has become known for his party lifestyle as his UFC career has developed, and recently acquired a multi-million Lamborghini yacht to add to his collection of luxury sea vessels. Many believe it has served as a distraction to his UFC career having lost three of his last four fights since his defeat to Mayweather.

Since breaking his leg against Dustin Poirier in 2021, the 34-year-old has been out of action and has been seen partying all over Europe including Ibiza and Rome. However he has announced that he will return to the UFC this year in a comeback fight against Michael Chandler as part of The Ultimate Fighter.

Despite revealing his plans to campaign for the title at 170lb current held by Leon Edwards, McGregor has also teased a future return to the boxing ring. He recently called out Mexican star Canelo Alvarez and the pair clashed online, which may have brought a storyline to a future showdown.

And previously McGregor has suggested he would very much be open to a future in the squared circle despite having two fights remaining on his current UFC deal. "Boxing is my first love in combat sports," McGregor told Sky Sports. "I had such a great time the last time I was out there.

"Obviously, my return will be in the octagon for UFC. That story is far from over, in fact it's just being written. It is just the beginning but boxing, for sure, I will grace the squared circle again in the future."
