Dan Walker has been forced to change his Coronation plans thanks to the weather.

The TV presenter, 46, was planning to travel to King Charles' celebrations by bike as he covers the historic event for Channel 5.

Former Football Focus host Dan revealed he was "abandoning" his plans after getting caught out in a thunderstorm.

Posting a drenched selfie on his social media, he wrote: "Just got absolutely drenched in a huge thunderstorm in London. Abandoning plans to cycle to Buckingham Palace for tonight’s Channel 5 news.

"See you at 5 on 5… need a few hours with a hair dryer first."

"Oh no hope it's not on its way to Sussex sunshine here yesterday I was caught in massive rain storm," added another.

A third quipped: "Love the yellow bike, Dan. Hope you have a matching bright yellow jacket to try & avoid another mishap. Enjoy the #Coronation."

It seems as if Dan has managed to dry out after his previous drenching as he met with royal fans.

He tweeted a photo of some people enjoying the Coronation celebrations by wearing masks and wrote: "Met the Royal family today. Special times Full story on @5_News later."

The Coronation celebrations are set to get into full swing tomorrow.

King Charles and Queen Camilla will be crowned in a two-hour ceremony on Saturday at Westminster Abbey.

The service is one of the oldest royal events in history, dating back more than 1,000 years. However, King Charles is said to have made some changes to reflect his role as monarch in modern Britain.

There will be some key differences at the ceremony on May 6, compared to Queen Elizabeth II's Coronation on June 2, 1953.

Prince William, King Charles and Kate Middleton carried out a spontaneous walkabout outside of Buckingham Palace on Friday.

The surprise appearance shocked royal fans who had been lining The Mall as they surged to snap selfies with the royals and shake hands with them.

Speaking to one wellwisher, Kate revealed how Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis are feeling about the Coronation.

"They're really well, thank you," she said. "Excited, a bit nervous with a big day ahead."

When asked how she and William were feeling, she explained: "All good. Hopefully a bit like a swan, relatively calm on the outside and paddling on the inside."

On Charles, she said: "I'm sure looking forward to it as well. It's nice to be out here saying 'hello' to everyone who has stayed out for so long."
